Here's an original tune I recently composed for B11 tuning. I was looking for something a bit exotic that features the tuning's rich 9th chords. Hope you like it.

Thanks Guy and C.E. I think the steel is an Airline with no logo. It looks exactly like an Airline. The serial number indicates 1958.

That was great, Doug. It does indeed sound like a lost classic.

The song has one of my favorite chord changes: 1 to b7 9th chord. That would be D to C9 in this song. It's a mysterious sound (to my ears). That's what I started with, and I built the melody around those chord changes. The B section has a 4 to a 4m. There's also a Gm6 in there somewhere. I think in this case, the tuning (B11) actually wrote the song... the interesting sounds built into the tuning give the player new ideas, melodies and chords that don't reveal themselves on C6, A6, E, or most of the other tunings. That's my take on it anyway.

My thoughts exactly !! As always, your playing and tone are outstanding ! Loved it ! I am going to have to look into that tuning...I have your 16 songs book, but havent explored that tuning yet...I must do so now !
Thanks for posting that.

Great tune! Do you think you'll tab it out? I know you've done that with some of your originals in the past like "Valco Swing"

A beautiful tune and a nice melding of the moon and tide.
I have a hunch there's a female in there somewhere. :0)

Fantastic tune Doug, you really make use of the chords in the B11 Tuning. As usual we all love to listen to your tunes and hope to emulate them.
Keith.

Chris, you're right. Women are usually the inspiration for songs like this!

Keith, thanks for checking it out!

mmm mm.
I have fond memories of driving home after the gig, on Kauai. with the moonlight shimmering on the ocean and the smell of decaying leaves in the jungle parts of the drive.
Particularly, on the way from Hanalei to Princeville, on Kauai.
Again, a beautiful song, Doug. I would love hear John Ely, Alan Akaka, Jeff Au Hoy, or Greg Sardinha play this.

Daniel, it's great to hear that you're interested in non-pedal steel. I was drawn to it because I like the challenge of working out songs on a basic lap steel. I played pedal steel for 20 years before I discovered how much fun "straight steel" can be! Now I enjoy playing both.
