Well, on all of the wood/finished surfaces I use either Winzer Reflection surface enhancer,
which is stupid expensive by the way and my bottle is almost empty, or I use
Meguiar's PlastX and rub lightly. Much cheaper and works great.
On aluminum surfaces I use Mother's aluminum polish and an old t-shirt and rub lightly.
Although I play lap steel, I do have a solid aluminum guitar by Innovative Guitars and I just
finished rebuilding a Marrs Catcan and I added a lot of new aluminum parts.
The PlastX and the Mother's is what I used and they look amazing, at least to me.

Meguiar's Mirror Glaze Professional Swirl Remover 2.0. Does a fantastic job of cleaning and getting rid of body oils, ciggie residue, etc.. Then California Customs M-RON GLASS.

For aluminum, California Custom Purple Polish

Less than 5 minutes later. Virtually no rubbing. Pretty much just wipe it on and wipe it off. Use the Oxidizer if the aluminum is really dull and gray.
