This cut is from Debashish's CD "Beyond the Ragasphere". I'm not a huge McLaughlin fan but this is pretty cool and the contrast between instruments is very fresh, as is the SFX beginning.

...ahh the things we used to do listening to John McLaughlin/Mahavishnu Orchestra records back in the 70s... Evil Twisted

I own that Debashish CD and it's fun. Love the close mic'd tabla drums.

I was a big Mahavishnu fan, but it all went by so quick.

This is a pretty complex piece. McLaughlin could do that.

Here is one of my favorite Debashish tunes, Kirwani One5+8 five. Saw him in concert this is one complex tune and the vocal on the chorus is incredible.

Interviewing Debashish was a treat. Super nice guy. I'm gonna' try to get to India next year to study with him for a coupla' months at his school. Bucket list thing.

Ed, That has to be an exciting prospect and a daunting one. Do use the Indian style slide guitar?

Debashish is indeed a really nice guy and technically speaking, I doubt there's anyone alive who can match his control on the instrument. I enjoy a lot of his music and appreciate that he is interested in collaborating with Western musicians.

I do on 8 string lap and 8 string Weissenborn.
It seems my tuning and style was in the ballpark before I embraced Debashish and Bhatt but it will take my three lifetimes to get anywhere near them that's for sure. It's otherworldly.

I can't see what he's playing. The picture looks like a Strat-steel. A google yields several far out acoustic-looking steels.

I love the intro, very other-worldly, but I can't identify the instruments beyond McLaughlin, a harp, a sitar (or possibly one of Debashish's.

The link below has pictures of a Mohan Veena. This one is off of Ebay. It goes without saying this instrument isn't anywhere near the quality of Debashish's guitar but it does give an idea of how the sympathetic strings work. Its a cross between a Hawaiian guitar and a sitar.

Debashish makes his own instruments for others as well now. He's very proud of them.

This is one of his most recent guitars, the Neo Zen. Picked it up there a few months ago.

Speaking of his collaborations, Debashish did a nice tribute album to Tau Moe and got together with some fine Hawaiian musicians (some of our forum buddies) to create it. Maybe its been talked about in another thread but I haven't seen it. Here it is...

This is an excellent album with masterful playing by all three musicians but personally, I make it a point not to listen to any of Brozman's music ever again.
