Guys,
Who has successfully flattened the end of a new raise rod for your push pull like the originals?
I would like to hear how you made that happen.
Thanks,
Mike

I've made a bunch of them using the flat side of a vise and a hammer (think blacksmith) then drilling a hole. Not as pretty as the originals but work just fine. I suppose that I could use a press but haven't tried it yet. Might try today and if so will let u know.

Thanks Jim,
I thought about that. I want to try and get as close as I can to the orig if possible... I'm OCD that way LOL _________________ I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you

I used a propane torch, heated end red hot and then used a square punch I made from an old punch just the right width. Then while red hot, put on top of vise and hit with hammer. You have to have a shim under back side so it does both sides same. Can't tell from factory but a lot of trouble. It also made it easier with another pair hands to hold rod while I flattened. Don't forget to drill hole, LOL. _________________ Henry Matthews

1. File.
2. Milling machine.
3. Hammer, heat and anvil.
4. Swaging dies.
5. Electrochemical machining. _________________ The steel guitar is a hard mistress. She will obsess you, bemuse and bewitch you. It doesn't have to be flat, It's the hole that matters.
other options abound.
Just thinking out loud.
thread the pull rod end to 6-32
Use a bigger diameter round stock, or square stock, drill and tap it to 6-32 , then drill a hole at the other end for the clip. Then polish the piece to match. Brushed satin would be nice.
Obviously it will not match the other rods but it can be made to look quite good.
Plus when threading the added piece to the rod, it offers yet another adjustment point.
No I have not done this yet, but if I need to I will. I have done many things similar.
Sho Bud has been using this "LINK" style system for decades for knee levers.
