Back in 1976 I was searching to buy my first pedal steel. I drove from Queens out to Huntington, Long Island to the Sam Ash store and behold there I met for the first time, Harvey Shapiro. I told him I was interested in purchasing a pedal steel. He retrieved a brand new MSA D-10, all white, 8&4. Told me he plays pedal steel and that the MSA was selling for around $1400. I told him I would think about.
One day I was passing by Manny's Music store in Manhattan & there in the display window was a new D-10 Sho-Bud which I purchased some time later for $1200
The next time I met Harvey, I was taking steel lessons from Bob Miekles, the President of the P.S.G.A. out in Elmont, L.I.
Harvey entered Bob's one night cellar where Bob gave steel lessons. I recall Harvey was the publisher of the Associations newsletter at the time. He was there to pick up some news material from Bob.
That was the winter of 1977, the last time I saw Harvey, wow 40 years ago. That Sho-Bud was sold back in 1997. |

Harvey now has the guitar. Back in his possession from Vegas police. He is ecstatic.

We need more like Jack Stanton in this world. Harvey offered Jack reimbursement for the improvements to the Emmons -- new fretboard and tuning pegs but Jack refused. Not only is he honest but also generous -- and I'm sure the universe will reward him. Thanks again Jack for rekindling Harvey's spirit and hope from your dual acts of kindness and the magic of pedal steel. |

That picture is all the reward I need!
Thanks for your kind words Bob, but some of the credit has to go to you. If you hadn't posted this topic to begin with, none of this would have happened. |

I contributed to the GoFundMe for Harvey before Jack found his guitar. Somehow I lost track of this string, knew he got his guitar back, but not that it was Jack Stanton who got it back to Harvey. What a cool story. Would be great if we could get Harvey to come join us at this year's PSGA show. Here is some great playing by Harvey, emulating Ernie Hagar's style as one can hear on the 1975 Commander Cody studio album. He definitely has some Emmons sound in the mix as well. Love it.

Believe this is Harvey's playing as well, doing the Emmons thing:
