I'm hedging my bets a little by reworking an old projection monitor cab into a extension cab for my little Blue Lady SE amp. It's a perfect fit size wise,I just have to order some grill cloth and a compact handle.
It looked very similar to this on ,but with a 12 instead. I liked the look of the metal grill but I don't think it would contribute to the sound in a positive way , so I reworked the front panel. Also cut the baffle back to allow for a front port.I had to remove the jumbo sized handle ,as well.
It came loaded with a yummy Alnico 12; unfortunately it's a 16ohm and I already have an 8 ohm in the combo so I poped a 8 ohm 12" that I had laying around so I could run a 4 ohm load.
I'm thinking about porting the back a bit ,as well. My rational being ,to get a more open "decoupled " sound ala Kevin O'Connor (London Sound)
. Any amp mavens want to give some guidance on the subject, I would appreciate it .
I will post more pics when the project is done. _________________ Visit my Studio: LimeStoneLabs at.. http://Facebook.com/LSlabs

The back opens like a suit case ,which will come in handy for transporting a couple of pedals & cables....
I think I have just enough left over blue Tolex to do the top. I'll use a light gray epoxy paint for the bottom..I'll have to wait for the weather to warm up a little here ;first, though. Contact cement & epox paint are way too stinky to apply indoors.
Here is the planned ports for the back......

why butcher the back of the cab when you can just open the back if you want open cab sound?
also, i'd tap into the speaker in that beautiful old radio.
i do have to say that alnico speaker should sound great in the cab. what brand is it?

Because you need some wood on the back ,to reflect back into the cab,,, Have you ever seen a completely open back cab?

Not practical for live shows, and from an impedance stand point.

It does sound great but ,again ,it,s the wrong impedance,,if I ran the 16 & the 8 ohm together like that; the 8 would be much louder.

It's a bell and Howell prolly made by Jensen.

Your best advice so far.
I used a hole saw and a jig saw to cut the opening. Even with a fairly steady hand some adjustments with a file where needed. Then some light sanding.
