I use a L'il Izzy and Earth Drive. I get great tone and sustain through my Milkman Mini but would like to add a
David Lindley sounding distortion pedal. Any Suggestions?

I cannot speak from personal experience, since I don't own one, but I remember a post a few years ago where someone seemed very happy with the results of using the Simble pedal from Mad Professor.

I think there was a video that accompanied the post if you search for it.
All the best.

Love my Simble. Great pedal for getting one into Lindley or Robben Ford territory. It's not a distortion pedal per se.....more of a boost with overdrive and a smidge of compression depending on how you set the knobs. Ford especially, is noted for getting a lot of CLEAN sound right on the edge of break-up.

How to explain....hmmmm....think of putting clothes in a suitcase very nicely to the point the suitcase is full....then you find out you have to put a bit more in. So, you press down what is in there (via slight compression) and add the extra clothes and it all fits nicely, just as it did before when it was full....so now it's just MORE full. That is Robben Ford's sound and the Simble helps get you there. Add huge dollops of talent and you're good to go.

After using piles of different overdrives I am very happy with my lovepedal eternity burst.
I use it along side my earth drive.

If you want to <strike>waste</strike> spend a whole lot of time, go to youtube and search for things such as "Dumble" pedals or Simble, Zendrive, etc. and you will find hours of pedal shootouts that give a taste of what some of these flavored pedals sound like. I can't find anybody doing Lindley-like playing but....

One thing I find with a lot of good pedals is that in the course of trying to dial in a specific sound in my head, I find really nice sounds that work well and make me forget exactly what I was looking for. win/win.

I have tried a bunch of different ones, common to boutique. Always go back to my Simble pedal. It is just a lot smoother overdrive; not harsh sounding as most of the others are.

There was a previous forum post about David Lindley tone about 4 months ago that forum member Jim Sliff had mentioned a Tone City Bad Horse overdrive pedal and a Hotone Grass overdrive pedal. The Bad Horse is a copy, or clone, of a Klon Centaur overdrive pedal and the Hotone Grass is a Dumble style overdrive pedal. I picked up the Bad Horse and it is an amazing pedal, very transparent. I like it on both guitar and pedal steel. I picked up the Hotone Grass pedal last week because I found a good deal on one. Its a good sounding pedal, but its a little heavier sounding than the Bad Horse and I don't like it quite as much. I was messing with a Robert Randolf tune and I will say that the Hotone Grass pedal emulated his tone without too much effort, but I still like the Bad Horse better. I'll know more about the Hotone Grass after I take it out on a gig this weekend. Here's a link for the Tone City Bad Horse. This is a little cheaper than the one I bought from the same place a few months ago. You can't beat the price, I've considered buying another one. https://www.riffcityguitaroutlet.com/collections/tone-city-pedals/products/tone-city-bad-horse-overdrive-pedal

Simble is a great choice, so is the Ethos Clean II (with a Greer Amps FET preamp pedal in front for that flavor of Dumble as well). That Sarno looks awesome. Can't wait to try that.

I listened to Brad's new Solar Flare pedal this weekend at the Dallas show. It is very good! No surprise, of course. Brad Sarno is a wizard.

BTW-Lindley's Dumble was heavily modded. Basically he said he wanted a 100w Tweed Deluxe

A simple Tube Screamer will give you that sound.

As will a $20 Digitech Bad Monkey or $20 Danelectro Cool Cat OD, both of which sounded better than my old TS.. bob

I have been using the Earth Drive with my six string electric guitar. I set it so when I roll the volume control back on the guitar it is almost clean and then when I turn the volume up for a lead it gets gritty and blooms. 👍

There is a famous story about Lindley getting his first Dumble.
Howard brought one to Jackson`s rehearsal, David tried it and said: I want this amp, not a similar amp or one just like it. I want THIS amp.
I think most of the early Dumbles were made to fit the buyer and his palyin style.

The Simble pedal delivers a lot of nuance of the Dumble tone. It's the best I've found, and I have tried many.

A friend of a friend has two Dumbles. He says that the best pedal to emulate his ODS is a Barber Small Fry.

Barber Burn Unit. My buddy has a SSS and ODS and his choice is BBU.

Haha, I think she must be cool with it. He's been doing this a long time. He has SSS ser. #001 and ODS ser. # 003 so that's pretty serious <g>.
