I've been ordering SIT Buddy Emmons Signature strings from Just Strings. The price is impossible to beat, and the strings all seem very fresh.

I've used SIT Buddy Emmons strings for years and only once
had a problem where they put the wrong 5th string in 6 sets.
They didn't just replace the wrong 5th strings. They sent me
6 complete sets of strings plus 6 5th strings and told me to
keep the other sets and enjoy them. Wonderful people. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Scott

I used George L's stainless for years. Then I went to Jagwires. They were hard to get for sometime. So I switched to Live Steel Strings. I like the nickel instead of stainless I have never had a bad set period. Never broke a string not even a 3rd.

No looking back after I started using LSS.

I even use them on my Tele's.

Anyone have an answer for this:

How long is the shelf life of a set of strings, still in the package?

Mark, I hope someone can give a good answer as I have wondered this too. I will say that I opened a pack the other day that I'd had maybe 6 months and they were fine. I have opened a few packs and a few of the thin strings were rusty and of course not able to be used. These packs had been laying around close to a year.

Just for the record I use Jagwire. I can't imagine that my recommendation is going to cause anyone to switch from their current favourites but I've always had great service from the company. I use the Paul Franklin E9s and Weldon's C6th - just because those happen to be my gauges of choice.

Speaking of string storage - I have many sets that have been lying around for longer than they should. Having said that I opened a set the other day that was made (or shipped, anyway) in 2011 and they were just fine.

I bought a new set of 6-string Ernie Balls last week and noticed their new packaging. It's hermetically sealed and, apparently, has some sort of gas added to prevent corrosion for as long as they're sealed. Dunno if it's just eyewash but that's what I was told.

I really like the LiveSteel strings. Jagwire is my second choice. As for shelf life, I have a vacuum sealer and have used it to seal packs of strings that were going to be stored. In places with high humidity unsealed strings corrode quickly. There's nothing like black tarnish spots to take the sparkle out of your strings.

Also, these SIT E9 sets always include an extra 0.011... So, you're actually getting eleven strings for the low price!
