I've been asked to record a few songs @ a home recording studio. It's been awhile since I recorded for anyone.

The question to me, is below:

"How much do you charge per song to track pedal steel?"

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm really looking forward to this!

Thank you!

My rate is $50 which is REALLY reasonable for home grown or NON retails sessions which are 100% artist supported. Certainly if a second song is ready to go I'll probably do it, I like supporting local artists who are self paying.

My $50 fee, which is a non deal killer, is important as it defines value.

Now obviously I don't drive two hours away for a $50 session !

I happened to get a call last week for a local session in a studio here in Charlotte which I didn't even know existed. A local artist with a nice simple flowing Americana song. I think we finished in about 45 minutes.

BUT then, the studio owner and Engineer started discussing other projects with me and they cited that we can get the job done in a very timely manner and I am not breaking the bank.

Set a rate that you can both live with but also keep in mind that it may not be an A Team session or full blown retail production. But do set a rate for value.

If the session is one song, then you set a rate, if they want to add 2 or 3 add a small amount on top or perhaps a general fee for a 3 hour block which I do now and then which is $125.

Thanks Tony! I appreciate it.

That's about how much I was paid, when I lived in NC.

This helps a lot....thanks again!

Hi David. I am with Tony here. I have a studio at home and charge $50.00 per song. I like not having to tote all my gear around to the studios here when I can just have them shoot me a wave in my Dropbox and I can track it then shoot it back and I can do it in my PJ's. Best of luck my friend.

Thanks Robert!

I appreciate you writing me! Yeah, that is the price I gave to the artist I will be recording with. $50 per song. He's cool with that. I wish, I had the luxury of doing it from home, but I don't have that type of gear. I will just drive to studios, for now. I have another CD, I have been asked to play on, also. She is a VERY talented female singer/song writer/guitarist. She's only in her 20's...& she sings the good stuff! Real country...NOT the new stuff out of NV.

I'm looking forward to doing shows with her, as well. She's THAT impressive!

BTW, I am looking to buy the Tascam DR-05 handheld recorder. If you know of anyone that is selling one used...or a great bargain NEW, please let me know. I would appreciate it. It's only $100...& gets rave reviews. Records both .wav & .mp3 files.

Thanks again!
