I just found a 1979 Peavey Session 400 on a local (regional) Facebook page near me. I had an idea, for the money ($200), that it would be a cool thing to have.

It's far better than I imagined, far better. My music room is too small to crank it up, but at reasonable volume it's really good. I will never sell it. I've had a Twin Reverb, Evans Fet 500 (early one, #49), a rack with a Revelation and tube power amp and a NV112. The Session is my favorite.

Full disclosure: I despise the reverb!!

Not a deal-breaker for me. I can use a pedal.

$200...a-buck-a-pound!

there is nothing out there that will beat a good old Peavey when it comest to the price/quality ratio ... old Session 400 or 500, LTD, Nashville 400 or 1000, Vegas, 112, are out there, for $200 - $400 ... I tried many, much more expensive amps, that didn't sound as half as good as an old Peavey... it is very hard for me to justify spending multiple thousands of dollars on the amp, when I can have a great sounding Peavey for few bucks... I owned and played almost all of the steel amps, and I always go back to Peavey.... there is just no way you can beat the Session 400 $200 deal ... specially when it sounds better then some $3000 amps out there....IMHO ... actually, Fender Steel King is another great amp you can find for around $300 as well ....

Hey Rick, you might try picking up a good pair of cables for that reverb tank or try switching the input and output (or both). The reverb in my Session 400 really came alive after just an $8 set of cables. IMHO, the springs have more character than the processed reverb from my Lexi. Besides, I like that "boing" when I power it up Mr. Green

Bottom line though...my Stereo Steel is still my #1 for sound but the Session 400 is #1 in total value.

Thanks, Randy, I'll give it a try. I'll clean the contact points too while I'm at it.
