I have had a few of these over the years,I must dig out some photos.

A good move is to get the actual horseshoe magnet re charged, that brings everything up a level.

Lee Moore is one of the few performers I have seen pictures of that used a National cast steel.

He was both a performer and disc jockey......if you search his name on You Tube there are examples of his singing, playing.

He used to perform with his family as in the photo ....western clothes complete with "six shooters"

Friends,

Thanks again for all the info. The good news is is that I was able to save the original harness. The sorta good news is is that I have sound. The bad/ odd/ news is is that strings 3and 4 sound normal, volume wise, but the strings get quieter as you move out. Strings one and six are barely audible. Any ideas. Right about now is when I long to be free of my love of old, cool, and frequently broken down things. Lemme know what you think?

Mel, I'd start with charging that magnet.
Send it to me and I'll gladly do it. Send me an email.

Todd

FYI,
Apparently it is a good idea to get pickup magnets recharged every 82 years or so. Tood Clinesmith did just that, and this steel is now all back together. It sounds beautiful!
