I recently come across the name while trying to figure out who wrote Too Gone Too Long the R.Travis song. It seems this fellow was doing his version of western swing and swing around 1972 in Hoboken, NJ. He had an interesting take.

Yeah, new one on me. Go down the side and pick up his great take on Oklahoma Stomp. _________________ LeGrande II, Nash. 112, Harlow Dobro |

I have to say I had never heard of Gene Pistelli
until listening to his Album, which I really liked.
I wondered who played the Steel Guitar on Oklahoma Stomp and backup on the vocals. According to the credits it is Fats Kaplan, (who I have never heard of) lives in Nashville and is a First Call multi-instrument Studio Musician.
I listened to most of the album cuts and thought that it was very refreshing to listen to those tunes with a Western Swing flavor. Thanks for posting Tom.

Fats Kaplin is a multi-instrumentalist who gets a lot of work in Nashville on steel guitar especially with the so-called "Americana" music acts and events of late. I see him quite a bit on some of the PBS specials. |
