Topic: New Faux Fender Princeton Lap Steel |

Just finished up my Faux Fender FS52. I changed a few things on mine that I didn't care for on the original Fender.
Well, I checked with Doug Beaumier and he told me that my Faux Fender looks more like a Princeton model than the FS52 I thought I had made. I looked it up and he is right. Other than the extra control knob, it's pretty darn close. It really sounds nice. I could not be happier.

The scale length is 22.5" and tuned C6. Pickup is a single coil from CB Gitty out of New Hampshire. They sell parts for mostly cigar box guitars. Building Cigar Box guitars with resonator cones in them is how I began this journey a year ago. I like the sound of the lap steel better than the CBG, but I had to start somewhere and I learned a lot from building the CBG's. The 3 in the picture I enjoyed, but to finance my hobby I have sold the blue one and the brown one. Hated to see them go, but like the wife says, how many can you play, you only have two hands! WOMEN!!

I make them with an aluminum block that is the same distance as the space from the bottom lid to the top lid less the thickness of the neck. This way the neck is totally supported. 3 or 4 screws draw everything together from the bottom lid. The aluminum block has a tapped hole in it and a bolt through the heel draws the neck snug against the body. It is a very substantial attachment. It stops just shy of the pickup. I will try to find a picture to illustrate the set up. Thanx for the compliment. |
