I posted about some sho-bud issues, but I'm also looking for a solid pedal steel teacher in the NY area (preferably brooklyn/manhattan). I'm sure you guys know a dozen +, but i'm looking to get my fundamentals perfect and just be able to have someone walk me through things that don't make sense in a book/youtube video/etc. Couldn't find a previous post regarding this, so, apologies if ones already floating around.

thx!

Gerald Menke teaches a bit. He is in Brooklyn. Do a forum search to track him down.

I'm in NYC from the 11th till the 15th if you want to get together also.

John - have you thought about using your computer and having lessons via Skype? No need to leave the comfort of your home - and your choice is wide open as far as teachers.

Just a thought.

Another vote for John Widgren as an instructor; in addition also a great steel tech & very knowledgeable.
John just set up my 2 yr old Fessenden SD-10 & it plays like a different (better) instrument. I would strongly recommend talking to him about your Sho-bud issues.
Worth the trip to CT.

Jonathan Gregg is also a good teacher (not a tech). He is in the East Village. He has a ton of instructional videos on youtube. Check them out to get a feel for his teaching approach.

And I've heard good things about Bob Hoffnar. (hi Bob Very Happy)

John, pardon me for tooting my own horn, I've taught 2 E9 players from NYC and and 1 from Buffalo via Skype with great success. Testimonials from Blaine O'Brien and Izzy Lazerson are at the link below, along with many others. Send me an email and let's see if I can help you in the comfort of your own home! I have a few openings in my schedule presently.

Straightening out players' fundamentals and grasp of the E9 is my main focus.
