Writing rhythms is my weakness. The v7 measure in Atlanta Rhythm Section's "So Into You" has me stumped. How would you write it?

https://youtu.be/QyIZ3pYKOQM?t=1m30s measure at 1:30 and again at 1:51. (Key of F minor)

I'm just trying to write the bass part, so all of the notes are C. It's the timing that gets me. Not hard to play, but hard to write down. Confused

Ah, the short measure thing Smile

So the basic track is fastish/mediumish 4/4, with a bass note per half note, and swung a bit.

The part you're talking about has ten counted beats.

One approach is 2 measures of 4/4 with one two beat measure where the drummer does that snare turnaround. The emphasis ( du DAH du DAH du DAH du DAH du DAH ... ) is ... sort of tripleted/swung.

It could also be two measures of 5/4, but I wouldn't because the one of the second measure of 5/4 is just hanging there. If they played a full measure instead of two beats, it would sound different but not that different. I have played it both ways in bands.

Bob, the tempo of the tune clocks in around 86 bpm, so that measure is simply a measure of 5/4.
