Has anyone out there with tinnitus tried the newly advertised product," Tinnitus Terminator? " It is something you listen to about 10 minutes a day and they claim will stop the ringing.

If so, please post your results and let us know.

Thanks.... Gene and Pat Heald

As the article says, the course may be considered 'tricks' that provide temporary relief, but can't be considered a cure.
It rates $47 as maybe too high for what is delivered. Caveat emptor, youse guys. The tricks are good but not permanent.

"After all, Tinnitus Terminator is essentially providing a one-size-fits-all solution to a very individualized problem."
Mine didn't begin with any of the classic 'causes,' but appeared psychologically. (Thus I treat it as a hallucination,
and let it be.) I think the effectiveness of the course might have a better chance at working for that than tinnitus due to repeated impact noise.

There is no cure for tinnitus, and its typically permanent..
I have very severe T, actually the worst classification,
"catastrophic"..

1 Mild
2 Moderate
3 Severe
4 Catastrophic

I hear it every waking hour, and it cannot be masked.. its louder than everything else in my world
Took me 5 years to habituate, and I am still annoyed by it at times , just not suicidal over it anymore.
Habituation is the best and only way.. it takes time however, a long time, depending on severity..
If you can mask yours with the TV, or radio, or a fan, or any external sound source, you are very lucky.. some of us have it so severely, it is even louder than music blasted through headphones..

I had 3 choices, Kill myself, go insane, or habituate.. Thankfully in time I got to the point I could live with the screaming sirens that never stop inside my head.. most do habituate, even severe and catastrophic cases,,,

Remember this.. Tinnitus is NOT a noise in your ears.. its generated from deep inside your brain, so store bought remedies typically just remove money from your wallet, not sounds from inside your head...
These sort of "sound therapy" things are typically useless, but there some people that get some relief due to the frequencies used in the CD or whatever sound source is implemented cancelling the frequencies inside your head.. For me, they didn't work.. It might be worth a shot, but don't get your hopes overly high.. I wish you the best of luck.. tinnitus is NO joke.. It is easily the worst thing I have ever endured in my lifetime.. I hope you overcome it easily.. Some do... bob

I bought it and don't feel that it did me any good.
It has a certain amount of soothing mood calming quality but I still have the swooshing in my head. It seems to fluctuate with anxiety vs calm.

I've posted this before, but when my tinnitus gets unbearable, I use the simple technique in the video linked to in this article and it completely eliminates it for 15-30 minutes.

That technique does work for some Jim, I know of it,,,
Temporary of course.. Me personally, it doesn't work at all.. Nothing works for most except just the course of time.. It gets to where your brain realizes it is not a threat, your limbic system "powers down" some, and releases you from the death grip of anxiety and depression.
I can go sometimes many hours now not hearing it, but my brain tunes it out.. All of a sudden, I will realize its there as screaming loud as ever, but I continue with my day, and tune it out once again, and forget i have it...
Took me 5 years, and I will never be fully habituated, but life has become worth living.. a LOT depends on how severe it is... If you can go about your day in relative peace, without anxiety and depression, you are doing ok... You will improve over time.. The tinnitus itself never gets better for the majority once it is there, but the reaction to it improves,,, thats what habituation is,,- tinnitus is as bad as ever, but you just don't give a crap any more... bob

I have a mild case from years of construction work, which is a high pitch short wave radio sound, so I always have the tv or music going.

Bob,
Your brain is slowly ignoring the constant tinnitus, and eventually will forget it's there, I am speaking from experience.

My tinnitus was not caused by noise, it is a common long-term side effect of having chemotherapy treatment (for cancer, another story)

Over the years (about 15 by now), my tinnitus has gone from being extremely annoying when it started, to hardly noticeable at all now (unless I'm thinking / writing about it)

yes Richard thats about what most of us long timers go through.. I am at 5 1/2 years, and I imagine at 15 years I will barely notice it.[Please God!] As you stated, the worst thing you can do is talk or write about it!.. Its screaming now!!!.. Time to move along,,, see you all later!... bob

I am keeping an eye on this post.
I worked in welding and steel work young. Uncle Sam had me running a Battle Grader (no cab) Exhaust pipe 4ft, behind my head for 8 months. Worked a machine for Westinghouse beside a pump room. (The pump room was walled and sound proofed after I left the factory.) The last 14 years I was a Natural Resources Police Officer I was a Firearm Instructor. I have a pet cricket that lives in my right ear and one that lives in my left ear. I go to sleep with them and wake up with them still singing.

I seen a advertisement once for some kind of a cure worked out by a doctor and a Rock Band member but it disappeared.

Bob, I've never read it explained so well as you did.

The neurologist I saw who also diagnosed meneiers disease said essentially a version of what you have written and he taught me the exercises like what Jim posted.

And it is noticeable to different levels. Mine is at the stage where I would call it constant night sounds. Like crickets and frogs all singing in a never ending song.

Xanax helps it. Just because it makes you not care. But I've never realized the level of depression you describe with it. It does cause me some depression.

The neurologist told me that with tinnitus and menieres I would eventually lose balance and control and the alternative I think is becoming stone deaf. But I honestly believe if you were to go completely deaf, the brain will still hear the tinnitus. I've always believed that was what was really wrong with Ludwig Van Beethoven and what lead to his apparent mental issues. We actually studied this fairly deeply in harmony or ear training when I was in music school.

I think this is something many many people deal with but it is particularly maddening I think for those of us with good relative pitch and can understand how it would be worse more so for someone with perfect pitch.

A deceptively simple and effective idea.

I resonate with Richard Burton.

A good piano tuner tunes in to what he'd tune out (a/c systems, roadies). I apply the same logic to internal manifestations.
('All this is that,' some say, like Carl and the Passions sang.) In a sense, it doesn't matter where it comes from
or originally came from--the environment, in some fashion--but too many genuses of the disturbance thwart treatment.

So I continue to listen--not to the ringing, but to the environment--and the noise continues to abate.

I think noise is a correct term. Do anything to reduce internal stress. It's a biological thing, and the brain monitors it.

My husband, Gene, is the steel player and has had tinnitus for many years. In trying to discover the cause, other than his years of playing music, was a wreck on a motorcycle where someone ran out in front of him and he hit the side of the car, hitting his head into the side glass. His is sometimes affected by medication, making it worse. It goes from night sounds like crickets to hissing sounds like an air hose leaking, to higher pitch sounds.
It is just sad that people try to take advantage of someone with tinnitus knowing their product is not a cure and in most cases will do nothing.

My tinnitus is the result of not using hearing protection when I was younger and exposed to constant loud sounds.Loud music, guns, power tools, and race cars did this.Also,38years as a professional fireman didn't help the situation, either. My hearing is still very good, although I have had tinnitus since my mid '20s.I am 64 now.

As others have stated,I don't notice it until I'm trying to concentrate on something or when I think about it.I'm fortunate because tinnitus hasn't really annoyed me,even though it can be very loud and distracting at times.

I haven't tried any of these products that claim to help the situation because I don't believe they are effective.Maybe I should go to a hearing specialist and see if something can be done.I'm like Bill Buntin;I believe if you go completely deaf, you will still hear the ringing in your brain.

I just finished my third bottle of Lipo Flavenoid. It did nothing. Nothing at all for me.

Mine just started about three months ago. It all of a sudden completely stopped once for about 10 minutes. I was so excited and happy, and then it started right back up and has not let up. I hate it.

My T trouble, like most people I'm guessing, is the most annoying when I'm trying to fall asleep. I use a fan for some white noise. Some nights, it helps tremendously. Other nights, it's all I can focus on and makes falling asleep difficult. Here is a website you might want to check out.

https://mynoise.net/

There are different noises that you can tune using a slider. There are probably 50+ noises from air plane props to rain and thunder, to Gregorian Chants or an Orchestral drone. If you have trouble falling asleep, try downloading the app on your phone, plug it into a charger, and plug in a small speakers on a night stand. You may have to pay $5 to be able to save the settings you like. But you can play around with all the noise samples prior to saving the slider settings you like.

Good luck to all my fellow T sufferers!

My tinnitus is pretty bad, but I rarely think about it. I just sort of tune it out I guess.

An observation though since I've been receiving reply notifications on this thread over the past few days -- just about the only times I've even noticed or thought about it during that time has been when I read a new post in this thread.

I've unchecked the "Notify" box on this reply. That should provide some relief!

Several years ago I tried Lipo-Flavonoid too and it also did nothing for me, except to lighten my wallet. Mad

To all of our friends here with T, I wish you all well.. Glad that most of you are doing fair to ok with it, as I am now.. I hate it, but am dealing, as are most here it seems.. Mine was just SO severe, that I could not function at all and was desperate to the point of suicidal early on. I just didn't want to live...
However, VERY slowly my brain adapted, and I am now more at peace. In my case it took YEARS,,, Some do ok within a few months.. It all depends on how bad it is.. If you can mask it with a TV, radio or fan,you are fortunate in the extreme.. Mine cannot be masked by anything no matter how loud.. It is whats known as "reactive".. It goes up with external volume, and simply can't be masked.. Thankfully, God has created us with "placticity"[look it up] in our brains, and it can adapt with time...
My reaction was more severe, and much longer lasting than most..

Today, thankfully, life is once again worth living...
I did it to myself, as did most of us here I am sad to say.. To any SGF members that are reading this and DON'T have Tinnitus-
1. Get on your knees, and thank the Lord...
2. PROTECT YOUR DAMN HEARING ALWAYS!!!!,,
You do NOT want this.. ever!

Gotta go,, My brain is screaming because I am now listening to the racket in my head, and its fierce...
Need to focus elsewhere.... bob
