My wife has an old cheapo lap steel that I am rebuilding. I plan on putting in a humbucker. The old pot is unreadable. What value of pot do I want? Linear, audio taper, or ?????

It depends on whether or not you are using it for volume or tone. For volume an audio taper is generally preferred- 250k usually works fine based on the pickup's output, and for tone a 250k linear should be fine.

Thanks Jim. It's for volume.
