Very cool opportunity for the right guy or gal. If I was 30 plus years younger, and 30 plus pounds lighter I might audition. Yes, they have age and weight requirements. The base pay is about $55k per year. _________________ It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. |

My son is a guitar jazz studies major at the University of North Texas, he said the Navy jazz band came to his school last year and they were incredible. He is considering auditioning for them when he graduates on either guitar or upright bass. I need to show him this link. Thanks Pete for posting this. |

I saw the Navy band in Summer, 2015. I can't recall the steel player's name but he was excellent- as was the whole band. The banjo-player was world class. _________________ Roger Rettig - Emmons D10s, Quilter TT-12, B-bender Teles and old Martins.

Search You Tube for "Country Current"... you will see the band in action. First class pickers all the way. _________________ Tim Harr

this version of Monk's 'Four In One' by the US Army Jazz Band is one of the best arrangements I've ever heard:

Tim, you were in Country Current during your hitch, were you not? _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

Am I too old? I'm only 68.
I played with a keyboard player several years ago who played in the Navy band. He said he spent the first two years as a jet engine tech, then found out about the band. Spent the last two years flying around the world playing at bases and on ships. Had fun and he's a great player. Now that's the way I'd like to serve my country. Hell, I'm only 58. |

I'm sure your neighbor, Jeff Agnew, will confirm Tim was in the Army playing steel, not Navy. And if memory serves me correct, Jeff was the first pedal masher in DC, follow by Corbin. and currently, Gulley. And just a tidbit, Bruce Bouton called me while I was a part of Navy Band @Sandpoint Station Seattle, WA., he was considering joining up. I think Bruce made the right choice _________________ Assorted gear and a set of hands...
