| Sooo...as I continue tweaking in an effort to see if I can make my new G2 "the" guitar, I've swapped out the stock single coil for a 705. Guitar is still too bright sounding for me, and I think part of it is the distance the pickup is from the strings. The 705 is taller than the stock single coil, so I can only get about and 1/8" clearance below the strings. My first thought was to enlarge or relocate the whole in the pickup plate , whichever is needed when I pull the pickup back out, so the wire can drop straight through allowing me to remove the spacers and mount the pickup directly to the pickup plate. Alternatively, I could swap out the spacers for thinner ones, but it seems the space is required as it sits for clearance of the rather thick cable on the 705. Curious how others have handled this, I'm assuming I can't be the first guy to put a 705 in a G2. Any feedback as to what distance between the pickup and strings has seemed to be ideal would be appreciated as well, although I know this obviously varies based on the specific guitar, and the tone each player prefers. It may be that the space OI have no is right, but hard to tell when you can't lower the pickup any further to allow moving it all the way through from too high to too low to find the sweet spot. I have typically found having the pickup lower than it is now provides a more natural unstressed tone. |

I put a 705 on my Pre G2 and had the same problem. I called
Mullen and they told me the screws were too long for that P/U.
I went to the hardware store and got some shorter screws and
that let the P/U go down enough. I think the screws are 4-40.
You do need the spacers. I used contact cement to hold them in
place so they didn't move around when I put the P/U back on.
