I wish Doug would make a 12 string. I'd buy one if he did. He said he would make them if he got 50 orders. |
I wish he'd make an 8 string. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

While you're taking requests, Doug.......
1) a D-10
2) a mechanism that will actually PLAY the steel, while we sit behind pretending we know what we're doing.......like a player piano.
Thanks! |

I suggest a compromise between my 8-string and Mike's 12-string: a 10-string pedal steel!
It might even become a standard someday. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

Mike, there is a nice Carter S12U for sale here right now for $1850. If I was in the market for a nice compact U12 I believe I would buy that one pretty quickly. I think maybe I also saw an MCI in the same price range, another fine guitar.
A 12 string Encore would be about the same guitar, and it would certainly have to cost more.
To tool up to make twelve string Encores would require at least the following changes --
It would require a longer body, and that requires a longer pedal rack.
The body would have to be wider, and that would require different endplates.
The keyhead and roller bridges would have to be different.
The wider body would necessitate different cross shafts.
The case would have to be different.
The neck would have to be different.
The pickup would have to be different.
And on and on....
The cost would be ridiculous to build a few of them. I can keep my prices down on the Stage One and Encore models by building parts for a couple hundred guitars of each model at a time and then having the parts on the shelf ready to go.
I have more work than I can comfortably handle now even with some part time helpers, so really I don't see any reason to disrupt what is making me a pretty good living to build a few twelve strings. Especially when good used ones come on the market occasionally at such reasonable prices. |

Doug, I saw that Carter. Unfortunately, I need to replace my car. (http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=302297) This precludes buying another steel for the next year or two.
I have some advise for everybody. DON'T GET INTO A WRECK LIKE THIS!! It's not fun. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Doug left me out of those who play there's on stage. Well I play my StageOne in my bedroom. They are a great guitar too. _________________ Zum U-12, Carter SDU-12, Zum Encore, Emmons S-10, Emmons D-10, Nashville 400, Two Peavey Nashville 112, Boss Katana 100, Ibanez DD700, Almost every Lesson Jeff Newman sold.
