For those who want a cheap weissenborn to start out on, Musicians Friend has the Luna Solid top on sale for $199 right now (Reg. price is $400). I have one and I have never played an expensive model so I don't have anything to compare it to. I like the sound and have played a solo guitar gig with it. My hunch is that it will sound dull compared to a quality weissenborn, but it sure is fun to play. I have put a custom set of strings on it and have it tuned to GBDGBD or it can be tuned to ACEGBD. The strings that come with the Luna will need to be replaced. |

I went looking for a cheap Weiss made of solid wood throughout. I found a mahogany one, made in China, with rope binding. It cost the equivalent of $400. I could not get used to the top bulge, mainly because I didn't know where it would end. So, I fitted it with a tail piece. It has settled in nicely with good tone and volume. My experience with plywood guitars is that they start out sounding OK, but deteriorate as they age. _________________ Don't go in the water after lunch. You'll get a cramp and drown. - Mother. |

Sale appears to be over-------------for now. A $200 solid top guitar seemed like a good deal to me. I am happy with mine. Now it is time to practice...... |
