Here's my latest "honky tonk approved" tab. "I'll Still Be Around" is off Jim Lauderdale's new CD, "This Changes Everything". If you're a traditional country fan, you need to own this CD. Tommy Detamore's kickin' steel is wall-to-wall and waaay up in the mix - he mixed and mastered it which means we have one of our own in the studio Smile

****A HUGE thank you to my buddy Tommy D on the tab. This is the real deal exactly as he played it on the recording. I initially tabbed it out based on what I was hearing and ran it by Tommy. He spent a lot of time going over every note of it with me - and showing me the right way to play it! The fingering notes I included in places are Tommy's.****

Enjoy the CD and have fun with the tab.

Here it is on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ozm6z1CKbs

and here's Tommy's setup:

Thank you so much Jeff, and a huge thank you to Tommy as well.

I've heard a couple of cuts off this CD, and a copy is on the way to my mailbox so I can enjoy the rest. But as a new PSG player, listening to Tommy's steel work and having it so 'up front' in the mix is like having in-home 'how to' lessons.

Jeff, you do great work on these tabs -- I've dug back and pulled out some you posted for Tommy's work with Doug Sahm as well. And Tommy, your steel playing is a joy to listen to, and the end result of the work you do in the studio is something all of the artists can be proud of.

Again, a huge thanks to both of you for providing inspiration for a new player, and helping to make the learning process just that little bit easier. The instrument is difficult enough, so we newbies can use all the help we can get!

Randy, thanks so much for your kind comments! I am glad you find this useful. Jeff and I are conspiring to do some more work together (if he can stand me Shocked) so if you have any requests for other songs off Jim's album let us know.

With regard to the Doug Sahm stuff, we were in the process of tweaking some of that and I totally dropped the ball and left Jeff hanging. So revisiting that material is on our todo list as well.

Awesome news Tommy! And you are more than welcome...even if I wasn't trying to learn the instrument, I can still sit back and enjoy listening to what you've done.

I would love to have the tab for, "It Started and Ended With You" from Jim's album. Tommy's playing on this is killer!

Thanks Tony! I have consulted my partner in crime, and if he's up for it this would be a fun one to do!

Aw thanks Dale!

Vitamins: various, mostly Melalueca brand.

Are you serious about the fingerings? I did put a few in there that I felt might have been less obvious...But basically on single string runs, I am pretty much a "crossover guy", alternating between the thumb and middle finger. That was something Buddy Charleton drilled into me in the early going.

It occurred to me that some might appreciate a mix of this song without the steel. Since I know the guy who mixed it, I had him run a new mix for us Razz :

https://app.box.com/s/sty243cq32tafc5ar78u0thg8dgnznxb

There are eight beats of a click track to serve as the countoff. The steel intro starts on the "and" of the fifth beat....

Wow, this is great. I just saw the post on the "No Drama Steel Guitar" for Jim Lauderdale's 2016 album and discovered Tommy Detamore. Thank you so much for tabbing out "I'll still be around", it is greatly appreciated. Do you have a list of other songs of Tommy Detamore's that you have tabbed?

Hey Michael, I just did a tab search on the Forum and I circled the Tommy Detamore tunes I've done.

If you don't have it already you need to own the Holy Grail of Texas honky tonk steel, the late Doug Sahm's "The Return of Wayne Douglas" CD.
Tommy and I had great plans to tab out a lot of that Jim Lauderdale album together and then he got real busy with his recording studio and joining Jake Hooker and the Outsiders band. Never say never, we may still get to it Smile

Here's a sample off the Doug Sahm album

Thank you Jeff, I really appreciate all the effort that you have put into tabbing out all these songs. I have tabbed many songs myself and it takes many hours long after my wife has gone to sleep, she thinks I'm crazy, I think she right. Thanks for the heads up on the "The Return of Wayne Douglas CD", I'll download it from iTunes.

Thanks Michael. Yes, you need lots of alone time to be a "tabber" and play the same passage dozens of times without driving someone else crazy!
Another showcase of Tommy D steel is Jesse Daniel's album "Rollin' On"

Thank you Jeff, once you get a "Honky Tonk shuffle" stuck in your head the steel guitar becomes even more addictive, thank you for this healthy dose of material.
