Hi-

Would any of the organizers of this event consider live streaming any of the concerts, classes etc? I would be willing to pay to view them if they were available. I wish I could make the trip out but with commitments I can't. Hope to make it one day.

Thanks!

It was a good time this year. The Saturday Luau Floor Show was better coordinated and flowed better. Not having to move the PA system into another room this year was a good change from last year. Lots of new faces and some real good music. A better turnout then last year as well.

There was a post war panda Rickenbacker for sale when I came in on Thursday morning and by the time I got back to try it out it had been sold. There were lots of frypans around and various other makes and models. But boy, do those frypans sound good.

Lots of good players were in attendance and some newbies who got up on stage and played anyway. I chickened out not feeling really to face an audience of players who could wipe the floor with me, but but I will work up a set for next year.

This was my third year mixing sound. I got to hear most everyone who played and do my best to support them in the audio realm. Owana Salazar was our guest of honor backed by Duke Ching and friends for the floor show.

I hope some of you who may have been on the fence in years past will come out next year.

And Rick Aiello, you were certainly missed. If you need a written excuse to take off from school next year, I will write you one.

Steve, I'm not sure if I met you (I'm horrible with names, but I bet I'd remember your guitar), but thanks for being there. I think the organization is on an up swing and I think next year will be as good or better. I hope you got a chance to get out and visit our fair city.

Very Happy Who was there that we know beside Duke & Owana? I've known them for many many years since we managed the HSGA Convention for 27years in Joliet IL. How about Kamaka Tom, Ed Punua, Vic Punua, Alan Akaka, Greg Sardinha, Jeff Au Hoy, Bobby Ingano, Casey Olsen, Isaac Akuna, Paul Kim, Ivan Reddington or Mark Prucha.
Sorry I missed it again this year. Any photos or videos available?

I had a great time except for about 20 minutes... I don't fold under band-playing circumstances but when eyes are on me at this event, anxiety slaps me in the face. Oh, well...

Wally, I'll try to give you an update on the long-time members: The Punua Ohana did not make it this year (but were there for the past 2), Kamaka Tom, Captain Ivan Reddington, Margie Mays, Frank Della-Penna, the Alaniz brothers, Jack Aldrich, Chuck Lettes. Many newcomers and "sophmores" like myself were there as well.

Chris Kennison, Tony Fourcroy, and Paul Honeycutt are the locals that make the magic happen. EP Davis "acts" local and makes all the bidness stuff work.

Man, can that Margie play steel guitar... Tone for days.

Great support was provided by several local Hawaiians. Mark Kehalekulu was a true ringleader and great singer/guitarist. Mark's wife painted a new backdrop for the stage that was beautiful. Keoni Laguneros (and his Ohana), also a fantastic musician and singer was a bit of a surprise and provided much of the stage set and artwork. Phillip Swain shared language instruction and beautiful uke playing and singing. Jana Yoshimoto with her terrific hula Halau also helped set the context. Hat's off to these great keepers of the cultural flame. Their presence and efforts remind us of why the music and culture are so important.

It's a wonderful family of people I'm proud to be associated with. Thanks!

Very Happy Thank you, Jim,- from way up there in the northwest corner of this great country. What would we do without steel players and the guys who play along with them. I'm glad to hear that a bunch of my old friends were there. And several that I haven't met. Maybe next year.

Thanks again Very Happy

I have a few, but they are kind of dark as indoor photography isn't my greatest talent. Get me your e-mail in a PM and I'll send some.

If you could pan to the left, you'd see me playing bass. I looked oer at these guys and said "My gawd! I'm surrounded by pakes!" We were backing up Owana Salazar.
