Does anyone know if there's anything inside a Peterson adaptor? To avoid having an unnnecessary connection I propose to make up a cord with a 3.5mm 4-pole jack on one end and a ¼" jack on the other.

Should that work or am I missing something?

I think it's just a 3.5mm TRRS plug at one end and a ¼" jack at the other

For iPhone and Android you want the last two connection points on the plug. The microphone signal is the "sleeve", the second "ring" is ground (T-R-[R-S]). I made one with the cable from some dead earbuds, works perfectly for a tuner input.

Ian - thank you for that revelation! For some reason I was thinking the mic signal was the tip, which would not have worked. Now I've compared the two types of plug (with and without mic circuit) I see how it all goes.

When I use the Petersen adaptor I find that the iPhone is not isolated, and can suck tone/signal from the guitar when used with a tuner tap off of a passive pedal. I now use the Tascam iXZ...

I'm assuming that the two outputs from my Hilton are buffered from each other.

[edit 9/2 - they aren't]

That's what I ended up doing - I found the 3.5mm 4-pole jack I bought too fiddly to solder reliably. Thanks for the tip, I'm now in business Smile
