If that's one with the tweeter in it, you'll have to dial back the presence. I've heard steel through them, and if you twist the knobs right, it'll sound sweet.
It probably won't be even your 11th favorite amp, but it should do ok.

They work fine for Steel.
I've gigged with one.
You can bypass the horn (go directly from the amps speaker-output-wires to the speaker) if you want, but as Lane says you can just lower the Presence.
It is pretty much a multi-purpose plug and play amp... I set up the knobs pretty close to Nashville 400 settings.
The low strings actually sound pretty cool thru the horn.
It's a loud amp if needed.
If you try the amp and decide to bypass the Horn, take the back-panel off to get a better view (4 phillips screws) and take a picture of the Factory wiring setup from Amp>Speaker>Horn if possible. Bring a pair of radio shack alligator jumpers if you have some, and a head lamp. Makes it easier to connect stuff if needed  |

The one I heard still had the horn active, and sounded sweet. A hundred is a great price

I also use it for acoustic guitar and banjo and have even sung thru it!
One thing I recall is that I liked the Mid and Shift both at around 11 o'clock, which is a mid cut of around 300 instead of 800, but sounded better to me.
Bass up around 3 o'clock.
I think I liked it better with the Brite knob pulled out. |

I think you could put the tweeter on a toggle switch for off and on. |

The Reno 400 is the same exact amp as the Nashville 400 (When plugged into the 2nd input) with the addition of the tweeter, and a scorpion speaker rather than a black widow. Use the second input and you will be happy!

I recently turned my Reno into a damn fine steel amp, I think.
I disconnected the horn and replaced the original Scorpion speaker with an Eminence Neo-15" 4 ohm I got from the good folk at Telonics to get the correct load the amp is seeking. Now the amp's like a Nashville 400 with a larger cabinet.
I like it a lot in the music room, though I still use the Telonics 500 as my onstage amp. Matter of fact, I have Telonics speakers in my NV112 and my LTD400 as well.

Yeah Herb, the Reno is oft overlooked as a steel amp. With a speaker swap it can become a very versatile workhorse. I bought mine for next to nothing 8 years ago. Someone added fender tilt back legs to it. Unfortunately it sits in its road case now that I've started using the musicman 65,but I wouldn't hesitate to put it to work if a high powered situation arose !
