When I listed those guitars, I couldn't believe it myself how many I have owned. Just totally blew me away. Thinking about counting wives next, or maybe not Laughing

First the Gibson, then a couple Fenders, then 3 Sho~Buds, then a bunch... I mean a bunch... of Emmonses, then another four Sho~Buds, a Miller, in there is two PAReissue Bigsby types and a real Bigsby, then more Emmonses with a couple Fender Artists and 4 Fessendens interspersed, a Star, and now an Infinity, and a couple more Emmonses.

I forgot the three Mullens that were in there mid-90s.

These are what I have owned that I've remembered. I've bought and used and sold and bought and sold and used so many times the total is unfathomable.

1) New MSA Red Baron, traded in on:
2) New Sho-Bud Pro I (sold to purchase '29 National squareneck tri-cone)
3) Used '73 Fatback D-10 push/pull (the Cadillac)
4) Used '73 GS-10 push/pull (the Corvair)

The last two are all this old guitar geek will ever need.

1. Sho-Bud Maverick
2. Fender 800
3. BMI S-10
4. Fender 400

Ditched the Maverick in 1978; didn't try steel again for about 34 years.

Sold all but the Fender 400. It's all I need.

OK, I'll play Very Happy

In the late 70s I played MSA guitars
*S-10 MSA Blk Mica w/ 5x4
*D-12 MSA Natural Birdseye w/8x5
(removed back neck -- became S/D12 w/8x5
*S/D-12 1977 MSA Red Lacquer w/8x5 (first new guitar)

In the 80's I owned one guitar -- and it was a great one
*S/D-12 1980 Blk mica Zumsteel w/7x7

In the 90's I bought my only D-10 as a second guitar
*D-10 1969 Emmons Rosewood mica w/ 9x9
Briefly owned
*S-12 Mullen Dark natural lacquer w/7x5

In '98 I bought a S/D-12 push-pull that needed at least 3 pedals and a lever added. Within a couple months, I acquired parts and put it together
**THE BEAST - S/D-12 Emmons Blk mica w/ 6x6
THIS IS THE ONE GUITAR I WILL NEVER SELL -- has been my 'go to' guitar since '98

In 2001 I spent some time on the phone with Jerry Fessenden and he built me an 'experimental guitar' -- trying to fit a 5-lever cluster on a narrow 'frame and a half' guitar
*S-12 Fessenden Blk mica w/ 8x8
sold that one a couple years later and Jerry built my current Fessenden guitar in 2003
**2003 S/D-12 Fessenden 2 tone mica w/ 8x8

In 2009, Jeff Surratt built me a beautiful Show-Pro guitar.
*2009 S/D-12 Show-Pro 2 tone natural lacquer w/8x7
It was a wonderful guitar but I really needed another Emmons and Mike Cass came up with one for me so I had to part with it.
**1976 S/D-12 Emmons Blk mica w/7x6

That's 11 guitars over 42 years -- I keep the ones that work for me
So I currently have the two S/D-12 Emmons guitars and the 2003 Fessy
The ZumSteel was the one that got away. Rolling Eyes Laughing

I've had these...

60's Fender 1000
Rosewood Fessenden Sd10 (little d for frame and a half)
Black Fessenden D10
'78 Black Emmons D10
early 60's red lacquer Marlen D10

The sound of the Marlen is so inspiring to me that I haven't really played anything else since I got it. As clunky as it is.

Fessenden SD10 4x7
Fessenden D10 9x10
JCH D10 9x9
1974 Emmons D10 9x8

With the exception of the Fender, still have all of them...

Built two experimental PSGs in the mid to late -70s. Both long gone now.

-82: Dekley S10 (converted to S10 Extended E in -88 )
-09: MSA S12 (labrat *)
-09: Dekley D10 (stripped for C6 parts / sold as SD10)
-10: CarpSteel
-10: GFI Ultra (labrat *)
-11: Dekley D10 (converted to SD10 Extended E in -15)
-11: Dekley S12 (sold)

Still have those in bold. Mainly play the Extended E PSGs.

*) kept mainly for copedent-experimentation.

In the UK:

ZB Student ('70s)
ZB S-10 (pro model) ('70s)
ZB D-10 ('70s)
Sho-Bud Pro 111 ('80s)

1998 - moved to the USA.

LeGrande 3 SD-10 Sapphire Blue (late '90s)
LeGrande 3 D-10 Black (2000)
MCI D-10 (in 2002)
Zum D-10 (new in 2003 and foolishly sold on far too quickly; I should have given it more time)
Fender triple-neck Stringmaster
Sho-Bud The Professional
Mullen Pre-RP D.10
Emmons LeGrande 3 D-10 Sapphire Blue
Emmons LeGrande 3 D-10 Cherrywood
Fessenden SD-10
Mullen SD-12 (a failed experiment)
Carter D-10 (ex-Tommy White)
Zum Encore

All I have now is the 2000 Black Emmons, the Zum Encore and the Carter, although the latter guitar is at Steel Guitars of Nashville on consignment sale. I'm not anxious to part with it but I have ordered a new Rittenberry and I'll need to pay for it.

The Zum is far too useful for me to ever consider parting with it. My Emmons is a great guitar and my sentimental favourite so the Carter - as great as it is - is on the block.

A total of five. Although, as you'll read, the first one was very questionable as to be considered a pedal steel guitar. So here they are in the order in which they were acquired:

1956 Gibson ElectraHarp EH-620 (8-string/6-pedal) Laughing

1970 Emmons S10 p/p, 6p/2k (Sho~Bud teardrop-styled knee levers mounted RR and RL)

1983 Sierra "Crown", gearless, S14, 8p/7k (an early version of the Stafford Elegant
built by Bill Stafford when he worked at Sierra Instruments).

1980 Emmons S12 p/p, 7p/5k

1977 Emmons D10 p/p 8p/5k

For the last eleven years I have just the Emmons D10. This is most likely the last guitar I'll ever want. Everytime I sit down to play her, I get the same thrill that I experienced when I played her for the first time. Her tone, sustain and cabinet vibration - she almost seems to be a living, breathing extension of me. Cool

Keep on pickin'!
Glenn
