Sorry mate, I didn't take my sense of humour tablets this morning.

Yes - she's stunning. I will see it in real life on Friday as Dave is dropping it round to me. When I first saw the new body I knew it would look great, but not as good as this. I've had offers for it already believe it or not, but she's not for sale at any price. It's a keeper.

Sorry Ken for the confusion. Just thinking about when you get something new for the home, say a carpet or 3 piece suite, you hear the wife's plaintive cry - " must get some matching curtains".

I put my foot down last time though, I told her straight, "it's only a lawn mower".

They are chocolate brown Paddy, and don't go with any of my steels. Whoa! Perhaps Tony is right! Laughing

Thank you Dave and Don.

Yes Dave, the tone was always going to be an unknown factor. I had to admit when I acoustically strummed the Zum I knew it was going to sound wonderful. And it did. The sustain and resonance is really good. The new Telonics pickups are just incredible - very quiet but with great clarity and string separation. All of my pedal steels have really good tone, and my Show Pro custom 'Yeller' is the one that I measure all of the others against. The Zum doesn't have the huge tone of 'Yeller', but it has a very nicely defined mid range and the C6 neck particularly sounds terrific. The Zum gets a big thumbs up from me, and I will be taking it and my Show Pro to the North of England Steel Guitar Festival with me when I go to it in August.

I was told that my sunburst Carter is another Mark Giles creation.

Yes it looks like it b0b. That is a pretty guitar.

Carter would manufacture over 95% of their guitars with a mica finish. The lacquer finished cabinets are highly specialised and as Mark was set up already for this type of work it made sense to outsource it to him. Carter's LE range, had high end cabinets with exquisite inlay and highly figured grain. The type of wood that Mark uses is expensive, and he seems to have an inexhaustive supply in exotic timber. It has also to be remembered that Mark suffered a stroke not that long ago, and while he still suffers from the after effects of this, has nevertheless continued to manufacture cabinetry of the very finest order.

Just a couple of minor mods and she's there Paddy. Dave Wheelhouse is coming round today and between us we'll have the guitar running at 100%. The Zum's polished changer rollers have given the guitar's sustain a major boost. I'm just so lucky to have a stable of beautiful pedal steels to choose from. I will be recording the Zum shortly to see how she performs in that area.
