Just wondering if anybody had any info on the steels built by Rex Endicott. What years, pictures etc. Thanks

I believe this is an Endicott played by Leo LeBlanc. I don't know anything about them. I believe they can be heard on Mid sixties Red Simpson records. It sounds like a Fender on steroids!

I was Leo's roommate on the tour where I played guitar for Jerry Jeff Walker.Leo loved that Endicott guitar...It didn't have a roller nut, which never made sense to me but Leo kept it in tune,If you can find the first Danny O'Keefe record Leo absolutely shines on"I'm sober now"Leo was a very nice guy, legally blind yet nothing stopped him,He learned the bus systems well. Winking

I knew Leo, too...he was a cool guy, and I enjoyed working with him.
Did he have his necks or his pedals reversed? Have a look at his left foot in the above pic...

I have that guitar sitting in my living room now.

Leo's son, Thomas, gave it to me to goof around with - I had no idea what I was getting into!

It was FILTHY; it had been sitting gathering dust for years!

Egad! What have I gotten into?

The Badge:

Even has a built-in ashtray! Check out the grunge in the keyhead...

Looking a bit better now, but it needs some major mechanical work:

Ha! Cool ole axe. That pull out ashtray is cool too. Had I thought of that 35 yrs. ago when I was still puffin', I'd have probably fitted my old Emmons with one.

I had a D10 in the early 70s. They were made in So Calif. where we lived at the time. Traded mine for a single 12 MSA to a friend. Looked like it had a lot of Sho Bud parts.

I remember Rex playing in clubs around LA back in the early 70s, before I moved to TX and he relocated back to OK. Good player and a very friendly guy. The only Endicott (I guess I've been spelling his name incorrectly for years) guitar I ever saw was the one he was playing onstage. Looked like a Sho~Bud knock-off, as does this one.

I like Leo's playing on John Prine's first LP. Was that done with the Endicott as well?

Skip, yes the pedals for the E9 neck are on the right of the pedal board!

Also yes, there are no roller nuts - we'll see how that works out.

And the correct spelling is Endecott (see photo of the badge).

Kinda Shobud-looking! Gumby keyhead, and Ducktail changer, but the points look a bit pointier!

Tim, thanks for posting those photos! If it's not too much trouble a couple of pics of underneath would be cool.

Thanks

This topic brings back a lot of memories. I took lessons from Leo, and in trade I built him a case for this guitar. The lower neck was D9 with the first string at #10. He said he watched it go up an air line conveyor and fall 8' landing on the end one time, and it survived.

Dave, I'll post some underside pics as soon as I can get around to cleaning it up.

Gary, I have the case too (which I'll photograph and post a pic).
The guitar in it's case must weigh 100 lbs. (you built a very heavy-duty case)!
I don't know how the heck Leo could carry this thing around town on busses. He must've been a very strong guy!!!
