Looking at replacement batteries, one is rated at 10.8 amps, but says compatible with 11.1 amps (original battery rating).
The Sony laptop specs don't specify.

Would it not be a good idea to use a lower rating regardless of what the supplier says?

Why would you want to skimp on a battery that may last for a long time? An underrated battery will run out of juice more often and sooner than an OEM battery. Buy a genuine, warranted replacement and you won't have to worry about premature failure of a who knows who made it battery.

Charlie;
I forgot to mention that I tried an aftermarket battery in a Dell laptop, a few years ago. It didn't synchronize properly with the power meter. The meter would say the battery had plenty of juice, but the laptop would shut down because the cheap battery was misrepresenting its capacity.
