Just finished watching the live video release of Studio One 3.2 DAW. WOW, it's got so many great features. There were a lot of professional engineers that were explaining why they had left another popular DAW and switched to Studio One. There's a new console simulation plugin included that puts the noise, drive, and crosstalk, that was generated within the vintage recording consoles, back into the digital mixes. Really sweet! Melodyne is also included at no charge and is updated. If you already have Studio One 3, this is a free update.

I love my S1 v3 Rick... I’ll have to do the upgrade... I love PreSonus in general... they seem to really be on the ball... Any question I’ve ever had, and being a little dim, I’ve had a few, well they’ve been promt and insightful with their help... There’s also some good Studio One FB groups that are pretty beneficial.

Here’s a little 3 minute YouTube video that the folks at PreSonus just put up as a quick overveiw...

There's a new plugin manager that lets you hide plugins, or include them in a favorites list. I've got tons of plugins and this makes the ones I use often easy to find. There is also a new feature that lets you control the faders of any number of tracks with one fader without creating a buss for those channels. You can still control them individually also.

I’ve always had trouble finding some of the plug-in’s... And again, not able to find the fancy Console Shaper, that’s been featured in some of the new video’s on 3.2... I’ve gone into Browse and then Effects, and typed Console Shaper into the Search box and nothing shows up... need REALLY detailed instructions I guess... HELP PLEASE!!!

Glad you found it ,Dale. 😊

Yep, it's right where it should be.
Go into the browser. It's 2nd from the top in the effects section of the browser in my version.
It also sits on the master bus.

Just wanted to share this with you, (link below)... I upgraded to 3.2 “SHORTLY” after Rick started this post... As with everything with me there’s always a learning curve I tend to find difficult... That said 3.2 to me is a marked improvement, and the learning curve seemed a little less ominous this time around...

So here’s my latest attempt at recording, and my first using 3.2... I recorded this totally dry, coming out of a Revelation Tube Preamp and then adding effects from PreSonus 3.2... I recorded two tracks of steel panned hard L/R... I inserted Flat Plate Reverb on both tracks (maybe a tad much, but I admit to liking Reverb) and added a single bus to the two tracks together as well, where I used the Classic Studio Console of the Console Shaper, (I REALLY like this new addition in 3.2)... I then inserted the Mono to Stereo plugin from the Mixing drop down, but disabled both the Chorus and the Beat Delay... I used the Wide setting of the Binaural Pan, but dialed the default 150% down to 75%... it didn’t sound to bad in the DAW at 150%, but when rendered, sounded a little like it was trying to pile up on itself... I left the Limiter as is... and used no compression.... On the Main Mix I used just the Console Shaper with the Classic Studio Shaper and didn’t change any of their settings... I don’t know what I’m doing anyhow, so always a little afraid of tweaking stuff to much... Anyhow remember, this is my 1st attempt using 3.2... also I used ONLY the PreSonus built in plugins... BTW, I really liked their new Smart Arrow tool.

Dale,

I don't know how that could sound any better, both engineering and playing. I'm really happy with my Studio One. I'm especially happy that I don't have to buy any subscriptions to keep it current. Presonus has always been great about taking care of its customers with free updates. I understand the learning curve. I learn something every time I sit down and work with it. I guess the hardest thing for me is always knowing when to quit and say it's done. I'm always thinking I could mix it a little better, etc... Trying to keep my playing chops up to par, learning to be a recording engineer, being a different kind of engineer on the job, and all of life's other obligations makes the days pass by very quickly, but I hope I can always find time to make some music.

Thank you Rick and Rick... this is really a fun program to use.
Might make me want to record more, just to be able to play around with it.
One thing I wish it would do, is something I really liked in Garageband.
And that’s where the playhead is stationary stuck right in the middle
of your screen, and the wave forms to the moving past it... To me, that
is easier than always having stuff move off the screen just as your
trying to concentrate on whats happening... I’m wearing the finger
prints off my fingers swiping the trackpad to compensate.
Is there an option for that somewhere?

I'm not exactly sure about what you're describing, Dale.
Are you talking about auto scroll for the playback head?

If so, you can either have the playback head stationary or have it auto scroll in Studio One.

I hope this is helpful:

Thanks Rick, but that doesn’t seem to be it... What I was referring to is something that I saw in GarageBand, and from what I hear, other DAW’s also do this... that’s where as you record or playback, the playhead itself stays in the center of your monitor while the tracks move past it... much like real to real tape moves past a playhead while recording or playing back... to me its easier on the eyes to watch the center of the monitor, than it is to follow it from left to right and then regroup and quickly return to the left to start the process all over again... it’s not a Tennis match after-all Laughing Confused Rolling Eyes

BTW, my logic doesn’t always follow a logical path, though to me the setup I propose and which GarageBand uses, seems to be pretty logical... I’m sure there are reasons for PreSonus not using this method, ( it could be it causes a higher load on the CPU ) I know they are REALLY smart over there, so I figure if they wanted to do it like this, they’d be able to make it happen.

They're very good at listening to their customers at Presonus.
You might try putting in a feature request on their forum.

But for now, I'm pretty sure you can stop the playback head right where you hit stop on the timeline. Maybe someone can chime in on this.
I'll check it out too.

I did put in a feature request Rick... You can stop the playhead... but if its stopped its not recording or playing... in GarageBand the playhead is stationary in the center of the screen yet functional in that one spot while recording or playing back your recording.

I agree... they are VERY good at customer service.

Thank-you James....

To Rick and Rick... I discovered something by accident the other day while comping She Thinks I Still Care, that I was told you couldn’t do and that I hadn’t been able to do in vs 3, and no one could understand why I’d want to anyhow... so here it is

I’ve recorded up to 4 tracks of steel at the same time... 2 direct, I mic’d and also one amp direct as well at the same time... just to add the color of different methods at the same time... and prolly cause I don’t have a clue what I’m doing.... that said, when you’d go to comping, in the Old version, when I’d highlight ALL 4 tracks, I figured I should be able to comp the takes in one track and have those comps automatically be reflected in the other three tracks accordingly... that wasn’t the case though, and you’d have to do each individual track with its takes separately, which was not only very time consuming, but if you needed to have “Snap to Grid” off in order to make precise comps, well that wasn’t always easy.... Well those days seem to be over, and I don’t know if it’s because of the change in the smart tool with the I bar selector or if they actually went in and made this possible now... I had selected all the tracks and all the layers were open... I had 3 takes, and when I made my first selection and let go for it to go to the main track, all of a sudden all the takes in the other 3 tracks reflected what I had just done in the 1st track... I may not record with more than two tracks anymore, I don’t know, but I do know that even recording and comping two tracks, with this feature, it’s not only a time saver, but the precision of the comps will now be exact with snap to grid off.

Yes, indeed.
The new way of comping in Studio One is fantastic, IMO.
All you have to do is swipe the region you want with the range tool and it goes right to the original track as part of your comp. Very quick.

The other new feature that I really like is the way that you can now draw in volume and pan curves on specific areas of the track.

The new update for S1 is great. Smile
