Not sure what happened (virus?) but an unwanted internet station is constantly playing on my wife's Safari browser and we can't seem to get rid of it. For now, we're just using Chrome instead but we'd like to get rid of this thing.
Reinstall Safari? Download and run some cleaning software?
Please advise!
Thanks,
Jim
p.s. Her IOS is Mavericks (10.9.5; build 13F34) _________________ www.JimCohen.com

Jim, I think I’d TRASH Safari then and download a new Safari... If the problem still exists after that, you may need to go to the Apple Store and get a tech to help... Good Luck, I can imagine how annoyed and frustrating this must be... I know I get peeved when some of the ads just start off playing and you can’t readily find where to turn it off.
BTW... I DO want to learn and understand MORE Theory... _________________ Dale Rottacker, Steelinatune™

Dale, yes it returns even after rebooting computer. I'm already using Chrome which works fine but still want this crap off my computer |
I'm only familiar with Windows, and if this happened to my Win machine, I'd be looking at the list of things set to autostart on bootup. I'd also be looking at the processes and apps running AFTER bootup for anything I don't recognize. For example, there's no audio on the Google web page. If you hear audio when your browser is on that page, there's something else running in the background. Shouldn't be that hard to find out what it is, and trace it to the source files. |

Jim, there are two things you can do, 1. open Safari, In the top tool bar go to Develop, In the drop down menu select Empty Caches. if you don't find Develop, go to the Advanced tab in the Safari Preference pane, and click Show Develop menu in Menu bar. 2. go to Finder, Applications, Utilities, Activity Monitor. In Activity Monitor look for anything that says Safari Web Content and force quit that process. Make sure Safari isnt open, so you can see what process is running. You may have to go into Users and Groups in the main Preference menu and reset some of the login items. It's a good idea to have your normal user profile set to non admin to prevent unwanted stuff from being done to your machine while online |

In Safari, choose Help > Installed Plug-ins. See if there's anything there like a web radio plugin present. If so, note the name. Then quit Safari.
From the Finder menu, select Go > Go to Folder (shortcut Command+Shift+G). Type in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ to go to this (usually hidden folder). Find the corresponding plugin and drag it to your desktop.
Start Safari again and see if the problem goes away. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Thanks, guys, I believe we found the culprit and solved the problem. Seems there was some malware picked up that installed a program on my wife's computer. I can't recall the name of the program right now but I googled on how to eliminate it and seem to have done so successfully. Many thanks for your advise and suggestions!
