Topic: 4th string not lowering w/ knee lever |

| Hey all - I'm new to the psg game and loving it. I've got an Emmons gs 10. I've noticed that the 4th string (E) isn't lowering when I engage the right (and only) knee lever. The low E does lower, but not the high E. Looking at the undercarriage, I can see the rod moving but pitch doesn't change at all. I'm not sure where to begin to fix this. Any advice? |

My finger is pointing at one of two collars. When I first got mine, one of these collars was loose and I was having the same problem.

To aid in the troubleshooting:
Does the lowering finger (pushed by the rod Will is pointing at) moving with the lever?
If the finger moves but the string doesn't, somebody probably took all the slack out of the C pedal.
The C pedal rod on the 4th string needs enough slack to allow the 4th string to drop to D#.
Many people often start tinkering with push-pulls to get rid of the slack. But it NEEDS the slack.

we really need a pic of joel's undercarriage to see that there are actually lower rods on each E string.
some early single lever guitars only lowered the 8th string. |

Joel, the rod you see moving - is that by any chance the 2nd string, not the 4th? Many early single-lever guitars lowered 8 & 2 together.

First pic is pointing to 4th string lever and collar. Collar seems tight.
Second pic is of undercarriage with lever disengaged.
Third pic is of undercarriage with lever engaged.
Fourth pic is of lever engaged, behind bridge. You can see the lever pulling back but not the string.

You need more slack on the raise rod on that string. The raise fingers are the ones that actually change pitch (the ones with the skinny end and small holes that the hooks go through). Notice on yours that the raise finger doesn't follow the lower finger when you engage the lever. It is supposed to remain in contact with the open tuning screw when the lower finger moves, but there's not enough slack, so it hangs up before it does anything.
You probably need to add a spring (or a longer one) on the C pedal raise, or at least back off that collar enough to allow the lower to travel the whole distance it needs to, then re-adjust the pedal stop to get the full raise on the pedal. It will probably take a little finagling to get it adjusted properly and timed correctly with the string 5 raise. Which hole is the string 4 raise in on the finger? It should probably be in the one closest to the axle or the middle, it looks like it is on the end. |
