He is the child of singer Gail Davies and songwriter Gary Scruggs.

| I always thought he was Randy and Gail's son,,,Earl's grandson??? I think you have to respect someone for NOT allowing pregnancy to force them into a marriage they may not want,,,and Gail has proven her merit as a mover and shaker in the Nashville music scene,,,as has Chris. |

Yes, Earl's grandson.
And as posted earlier the son of Gary Scruggs and Gail Davies.
It would be worthy of an episode of Nashville if it turned out at this point that Randy is Chris's father.

Chris is no stranger to playing clubs downtown when he is available, I have been able to catch him several times with Rachael Hesters band along with Hoot. Always a good time...

Not a bad little "group" - Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives
They are actually about 65 miles south of me tonight at The Freight & Salvage in Berkeley, but I saw them there last November (before Chris joined the group), and the entertainment budget being what it is (can't see 'em all) I had to opt out this time.

He also gets to play a bit of steel, regular guitar and sing with the band too - Marty Stuart And The Fabulous Superlatives - Both Marty and Kenny Vaughan are great guitar layers too. Shame you missed them, they are an amazing band. |

His Fabulous Superlatives - IMO the best working band in Country Music today.
Chris replaced original Superlative (since 2002) Paul Martin on bass in the past year and also brings other skills as posted by Jeff, including some steel.
I believe life on the road and being away from his family was getting to Paul, and he has his own family band now called The Martin Family Circus consisting of he and his wife along with their four children.

Got to see and meet Chris a couple years ago when he was playing with Sara Gail Meech at a Indian casino in eastern Wisconsin.
He can play anything (any instrument with strings, including PEDAL steel). but non pedal seems to be his passion.
He visited and talked with us and was very nice, showing how he achieved pedal steel pulls with his left hand bar technique. Closing your eyes , it would be impossible to tell it was not a pedal guitar.
He is coming to Wisconsin in just a couple weeks. I will post the date. I think it is in Wautoma Wisconsin, with Marty.
Chris is one of the good guys in the Music business.

Really unique! He is the one who inspired me in the play and study properly the lap steel.
I think is the one who can playing really embracing the various styles of non pedal and in all the lap steel different eras. |

I was listening to a version of 'Shotgun Boogie', a live version recorded by BR-549 (I think?) and they introduced Chris Scruggs as the 'Jedi Knight of Hillbilly Music'  If that is true then there's no telling who his father is?  The midichlorians run deep in his family!!
Sorry been watching too much Star Wars I guess?
Regardless he sung that song perfectly and that version of Harbor Lights linked here is just great. Someone worth keeping an eye on for sure. Makes me want to fire up my old Stringmaster. |
