I had the pleasure and privilege to do some jamming with Jay Dee in Brisbane back in June - and believe me he can play C6th just as hot as anyone else :-} !! he is mostly known for his monster E9th playing but he can do it all on the back neck as well ....

I'm sure he's great at C6, would love to hear it sometime... With his right hand, I'm sure he can rip it!

My favourite track is 'Misty' - not only do we get a reprise of JayDee's great solo from the hit record but lots of his other great ideas throughout the recording.

Something's driving me nuts, though! Where have I heard 'Fat and Sassy' before? I see it's co-written by John Hobbs which should be a clue ('The Players', maybe?) but I've heard those chord-changes before somewhere.

Great work, Jaydee - I'm delighted you've finally got around to making your CD!

(Now I'm going to see if I can find all that B major rambling in 'Just Stuff' - it's excellent!)

Roger I think Jay Dee did Fat n Sassy on that Pacific Steel Album years ago - the one he did with Al Perkins, Sneaky Pete and Red Rhodes ??

Just got my copy of JD's CD by the way - outstanding in every way Very Happy particular favourite is "forever loving you" which I have seen JayDee do live a few times - very classy tune...

I am not surprised that the choice of songs, arrangements and superlative playing are so spot-on-JayDee... Getting to know JayDee and the LA crew I must add, has been so inspiring for me. This team is so good. Listening to this record over and over and over again at Goodrich, it totally cracks me up how good this is and how Skip nailed JayDee..

Way back when---I heard some recordings of Tony Booth and a fresh approach to steel guitar that knocked me out. We won't say how long ago that was to protect the ages of JD and myself but it was a cut above the rest of that era and yet, even today.
Since that time, other than some camera time on Hee Haw, we have heard other radio play featuring this man of steel. Mix Desert Rose Band and Dick Clark's "Hot Country Nights", all I can say is wow. Sitting in one of his instructional classed in 2002, and a brief visit at the SWSGA gathering in 2004 and now this CD in my hand; I have to say "Thanks Jay Dee for putting on those picks and kicking those pedals. I salute you."

There have only been a few players whose playing has touched my soul - JayDee is definitely one of them. I have been hanging around with him for many years now and everytime he sits down to his guitar, even just tuning up, magic happens. This cd is a good example.

What y'all said...

I'd just like to add that this is a different version of "Fat & Sassy" than on the Pacific Steel album. It's a terrific tune and now we have a different version, although the rhythm section almost sounds identical. Without comparing them, I'm wondering if they're the same tracks?

Wonderful playing as usual.

We got a very nice note regarding the CD from L.A. studio guitar ace George Doering. George is a monster player who decided to work on bluegrass mandolin a while back. He and his wife have a great group called the Brombies with DRB's Bill Bryson on bass and killer banjo player Pat Sauber. Here are some links.

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=brombies

And here's what George had to say:

"Howdy JD--I've been listening to your album for 3 days going to Sony each day. It is brilliant. It has everything--the variety of styles, everything from real slow to burning, soulful to funky (I don't hear that often!) and even orchestra! And SO INCREDIBLY IN TUNE!!!! That's what blows me away more than anything. The mixes are great, Skip sounds so good on the piano, Peter is perfect on the bass--and then you have real cool arrangements like Sin City--boy that's different! "Cold War" and "Rainbows" especially kill me--when you have those 2 moving voices like you do in "Cold War" I'm just dying. I had no idea Albert Lee sang so great--it's wonderful. I hope Vince Gill gets a chance to hear your version--it's just beautiful. I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying this album--it's obvious you all worked real hard on it because it's amazingly great, all down the line. Thanks for getting me a copy, and I'll see you soon--take care, George (if you get a chance, please tell Skip and Peter I'm totally impressed)"
