Thanks Steve for this tab and video.
Some tricky bar movements in there and some reverse slants. Excellent video to observe hand and bar moves.
What kind of bar and what size of bar are you using to play this?

Dick, That's a Tribotone bar, 3" x 7/8. Expensive, but very quiet on the strings, and durable. Glad you enjoyed the video. That 3-fret 5-string reverse slant is tough - I need to practice that one a lot more. |

|
|
Hi guys.
I heard a guy playing Whiter Shade of Pale on lead guitar as an instrumental and straight away I thought this would sound "haunting" for want of a better word and great on steel guitar. Hoping someone here plays it and maybe has TAB to it. C6 tuning would be ideal.

Will do mate. Have been wanting to get there for awhile now but business matters and wife's ill health has stopped me from getting there. Hope it's not too long before I can get there. Looking forward to catching up with Jeff Spencer, yourself and other friends that attend. Take care mate. |

Yahoo. Another excellent choice. I've printed it off and chompin' at the bit to try it.
Jack, your contributions to this site for us to enjoy is terrific.
Steve, thanks for the info. I think that I have come as close as I can get to a great bar and that's Michael Hillman's powder coated bars. I am using his latest right now, 7/8 x 3 and they are wonderful.

|
|
I didn't see that anyone has tabbed this out yet so here's a mortal's attempt at a Jerry Douglas Dobro break (standard Dobro G tuning). I took it off Jerry's "Traveler" CD. The song is a cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer" by Mumford & Sons with Jerry Douglas and Paul Simon.
Here it is on youtube, the break starts at 2:05

Enjoy and corrections are always welcome.

A couple of players have asked me about the X-slant that I play in my video of "Send Me the Pillow", on the intro of the song. I thought it would be useful to post the tab here as it might be of interest to forum members.
For an X-slant you spin the bar from either a forward slant to a reverse slant or from a reverse slant to a forward slant.
Here's the video. The X-slant happens in the intro ----> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GO2Tf8KLJ14
By the way, I am not responsible for the commercial that plays before the video. YouTube sticks that in there and I have no control over that.
Tab: |
A E7 A E7
reverse
slide slant X-slant
E---2--4--|--5------------|-----4-------4--|--5-------------|------------
C---------|-----4------4--|----------------|----------------|--------4---
A---------|-------4-------|--5---------5---|--4-------------|------------
G---------|---------------|----------------|----------------|------4-----
E---------|---------------|----------------|----------------|----4-------
C---------|---------------|----------------|----------------|--4---------
|
I came up with the slant by ear after a few minutes of playing along with the track, not by analyzing the theory, but if you're interested in the theory, here's what's happening:
The song is in the key of A and the Intro has the following chords: A E7 A E7
The reverse slant has the notes G# and D. Those two notes are in the E7 chord, the 3rd tone and the 7b.
The X-slant resolves to A and C#, the root and 3rd of the A chord. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

I can't seem to access any of Jack Gentle's tabs; they all come up "404."
Oh, well; maybe the tab books I have will provide enough Christmas songs for me to work on over the next few weeks.

I don't think I've ever seen a commercial on YouTube, maybe because I've used Adblock Plus for so long. No, I don't miss 'em in the least.
"Send Me the Pillow" was so good, I stuck around and listened to "Ghost Riders," too. Both were at 233,000+ Likes when I was there. |

Here's my shot at Jerry Douglas' Dobro Intro on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's version of "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere". It's off their "Will The Circle Be Unbroken - Volume 2" CD
Here it is on youtube, intro starts at 0:20:

Corrections and slicker ways to play things always welcome. Enjoy!

I'm looking for TAB for David Lindley's song "Tiki Torches at Twilight" for open D tuning (I think that's what he uses on that, Weissenborn).
BTW, Thanks to everyone sharing C6 TAB's. That's what I need to work on right now and these are helping a lot. |
