Topic: If you could have one Fender S8 or S6, what would it be ? |

I realize this is a very subjective question, and I will most likely get a lot of opinions, (I hope anyway ! ) but I am curious which Fender model you would choose. I have Richard Smith's book on Fenders, so I can look up models there that you might mention. I love my Fender T8 stringmaster, but there are times when I would just as soon take a single neck instead of taking it out to play out some where. I am used to 8 stringers but am open to a 6 string model also. i am pretty well stuck on Fenders. Just curious in your experience what was/is your favorite. If you have a picture of it, that would be cool. Thanks in advance.

I had an 8 string once that lacked sustain above the 12th fret. Someone told me that the body was ash. I think it was a Studio Deluxe.
I also had a 6 string, I believe it was a late '50s Champ, that sounded very good. It had numbers on the fretboard. It might have been the Forrest White model. The paint had been stripped, and it looked like walnut.
If those two were my choices, I'd take the 6 string. It sounded much better. I should never have sold it.

I have or have had all versions and MY opinion if I was to choose a single neck lap model Fender would be the early 50s Champion with the Tele style pickup. They are so comfortable to play and sound great as well. They are 6 stringers but are very available and portable.

I love how playable my stringmaster-style Deluxe 8 is... but the trap pickups on the dual pro might be my favorite sound that fender offers. Just so clear and punchy... so I'd hypothetically choose a dual pro-style deluxe 8... if I had one.

I have both - a Champ 6 and a Deluxe 8. I play the 8 about 90% of the time I play a single neck Fender, and the rest on the Champ. btw, almost 100% of my Hawaiian steel is on my Asher Alan Akaka Special. IMHO, an 8 string steel is much more flexible than a 6.
