Hello all!
Started to play the steel like month ago with the classic Pedal Steel book by Bill Keith and Winnie Winston.
I recorded myself playing "Red River Valley"

https://soundcloud.com/ben-waismann/red-river-valley

Added some more instruments to add some classic country feeling.

Well i had no tuner so sometimes it just didnt sound so accurate.

My playing is from notes, the 1# song in the book.

what do you think?

Well Ben, I can't say anything bad about it except I'd like it longer.'Smile'
For only a month or so, I'd say your doing doing great and before long
you'll be wanting to play with a band. Waiting to hear your next one.

Hi Ben,

For only having a month on the steel the courage you have to put something up is tremendous.Don,t let lack of feedback offend you. Keep at it and be a devoted member of the forum as there is just so much information and help available if you care to take advantage of it. I would love to hear a post from you in a years time.
All the best,
Warren Johnston.

That was great, Ben. I wouldn't change a dang thing. That was the first song I learned, too...from that same book. As you get into that book, there is a lot of stuff in there that is not necessarily beginner material, but you have a natural musical aptitude and I think you found a great instrument to express yourself. Nice!

Ben, You are doing good for just getting started. Everyone starts on the bottom and it takes time to improve. Keep playing and recording yourself and you will see how far you have come along. I personally video is better, you can hear but also see what you need to work on. Post more when you can.

Ben,

For someone to have been playing for a month, you are doing GREAT! Most people I know learning to play need more than a month just to get used to their picks and get a feel using the bar, not even mentioning using pedals.

If you keep progressing at this rate, and I hope you can, you will be Amazing by this time next year. But remember that you will have times that you will not progress as fast as you are now but don't let that discourage you. Everyone has "Dry" spells. Sad

I am sure everyone on this Forum will be glad to give you Help, if need be, on problems you may encounter as you travel down the road of becoming a better player....I know I will be glad to help you in any way I can.

Keep on doing what you're doing Ben, I seems to be working for you. Smile

I couldn't hit the right strings after a month. It's been 37 years and still can't on some nights. You're doing great and I feel you will be a good steel guitarist in a very short time.

Is the country music scene pretty hot there is Israel? Wink

Actually not at all! Theres a very few "country" bands in Israel, and in my opinion most of them aint do it right Smile
My father is a big fan of country music, so me and my brothers absorbed it Smile

Ben That's really well done for the amount of time you have on the instrument. Keep it going. All the best NM

I hear a new player who is well on the way to being a very good Steel Guitarist. I know you will be listening to a lot of other players and will have your own favourites, just give your attention to how they use hands & feet & knees to express the emotion in the music, make it flow.
