Just want to recommend cleaning the contact between the string and the changer - I took off the strings, and cleaned with a dry sponge and re-lubricated with some sewing machine oil. Took half an hour, as I also took a look at the condition of my pickups, and cleaned there as well.
It has made a HUGE difference. Was pretty dirty. - Sustain and Treble improved 50% - it really opens up the sound. A real easy fix for a steel novice.

Yes indeed. Makes sense that 1/2 of the contact between the string and the rest of the guitar be solid and clean. The other half would be light oil occasionally on the roller nut axle, and every so often disassembling the rollers from the axle and cleaning. (Keep 'em in order if they're gauged to the string diameter!)
When playing a gig, if I break or change a string I at least rub the top of the finger with my thumb and wipe it down.

Nice to see a fellow dane in here. Are you by accident living near Copenhagen?
It's called Delta Oil. You can get it in different versions. But a nice silicon based oil would do just fine also. Stay away from wd40. |
