John was a pal, fantastic player, Dave Hartley's right-hand man, and one of the wittiest people I've ever met. He was a British honky tonk guitar player living his dream in a little town north of Austin. He reportedly died in his sleep this morning. Rest in Peace, Big John.

John will always be one of my favorite pickers of all time. When he was still living in the UK, we used to correspond back and forth, sometimes send each other things. One of my prized musical totems is this George Jones bus he sent and which I keep on top of my amp...

Goodbye my friend.

My deepest condolences to Mandy Marie.

Another bad week in what has been a rough summer for some of the world's greatest country musicians, losing John Stannard and the great Al Bruno. I love watching David Hartley's videos on Youtube with John Stannard. They both are so amazing. Here is a great example of John Stannard's great playing with his compadre:

Didn't know John personally but he was a great Tele. style player and very popular.

Completely unexpected and very sad. At least his contribution to the music scene is well documented.

Sympathies to his wife and family.

Fond memories of John Stannard who played at nearly all my Steelies meetings, this link,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-Ra5UMSB90

is a clip of a scratch band I put together to fill an hour at the theatre in Brentwood, John outclassed us all by a country mile!
My Daughter Kate came along and sang a couple of songs ....The first time she had ever been on stage and sang in front of people....... not too shabby for a first go...
My youngest Bec was on the video camera, also her first effort at filming ...hence the shaky camera etc.
but the magic of John Stannard's playing shines through and carried us, he was a class act and a good friend may he rest in peace.

Deeply saddened to hear of Johns' passing, I was very privileged to jam with him quite a bit in the Telonics room at the Dallas steel show last year...amazing guitar player and he had a wonderful sense of humour Very Happy

I am really shocked and couldn't believe that it was HIM, that fantastic guitar-player, when I read the name...
He was a funny guy and I'm glad that I had the possibility to meet and talk to him at the Dallas jamboree.
Now he keeps on picking with Red Kilby, Bobby Bowman, B. Emmons and many more...
