From the underside, look at the area right in front of the changer fingers. If the BCT was installed, you will see a small section of wood added there. The fingers will be making contact at that spot. If the BCT was original, there is no additional wood added, the fingers are against the body.

Also, Andy, they should have added a silver patent sticker at the right end underside.

I have a 97 Carter that left my house twice. Once was to have Bud and John install a BCT changer in it. As I recall it was about 400 bucks back then but at my age I'm lucky to remember my age. At any rate, I looked under my guitar and I don't see any wood as described above. Keep in mind, these older Carters had wood back aprons so maybe that has something to do with it. In fact John told me that it was a job like mine that had the company go to the metal rear apron. It was too hard to bust open the all wood body. I do see a metallic sticker on the same end as the serial number but don't remember if it was there originally (I think so). It's about 2 inches by 2 inches, maybe a bit bigger. Any way, I'm not trying to muddy the waters here. Just curious if there's some other 'tell' about retrofitted BTC changers.

There IS a piece of wood in there but it so closely resembles the color of the body, it looks like it IS the body. Is that black thing I see through the 3 slots all the way at the end of the changer (when looking from above), that piece of wood? I'm guessing so. The more knowledgeable folks than me once again prove that they are!
