Ron:

Thanks for that. Never heard it before.

Here is another: Midget Auto Blues by Bonnie Tutmarc with Paul Tutmarc and band, circa 1950. Coming from SoCal, you probably know about Midget races, which were very, very popular nationwide 60 years ago.

Thanx, Mitch, that's a cool one.

Ascot was the place to be for small track/figure 8/demo derbys, and Lions Dragstrip was right nearby.

I was in that crowd on the last race day.

So. Cal rocked!

Lest there be any confusion: This thread, incorrectly titled BUD TUTMARC, is really about PAUL TUTMARC...PAUL TUTMARC was the father to "BUD" TUTMARC. Paul was a very fine steel guitarist in his own right as we can hear on this thread. PAUL (sr.) friends included SOL HO'OPI'I along with DICK McINTIRE shown 'playing' a double neck which Paul made. (Dick never played that guitar on any recordings). PAUL sr. ("Bud's" name was also Paul), claimed to have invented the first electric bass which is also shown in these old photos. Paul manufactured many steel guitars. Bud is credited for making custom steel guitars also. Bud gave one of his steel guitars to (the late) KEITH WORLEY who was England's top steel guitarist some 40 years ago. Bud Tutmarc was married to a lovely lady named Opal. Bud and I were good friends. My (late) wife Mary and I had the pleasure of hosting Bud and Opal for one week at our home here in Edmonton...a week filled with fun and music. Bud later passed away (cancer). Opal passed a few years later.

Disclaimer: Sorry about the topic drift, but I just couldn't help it...

Was Ascot the place where they broadcast "Jalopy Derby" back in the mid-50s? Remember watching it on TV when I was a kid growing up in China Lake. Young Parnelli Jones was my favorite.

Says here, in the comments

that Jalopy Derby was at least some of the time from Culver Speedway, on Channel 5. I'd assume that was in Culver City?

I saw Parnelli race midgets in Reno in the late 1960s on a very small track. He put a lap on the local talent in short order.
