I am using the Digitech S-200 but I am thinking of upgrading soon.
I use a GD Walker SS and need to find a nice sounding compatible del/rev rack unit.

MPX100. It may be venerable, but it sounds great, is cheap (because it's old), easy to use and sounds good.

I have 2 Walker S/S steel amps. One has the Lexicon MX 300
and the other has Lexicon MX 400. Very easy to program and
the sound is fantastic on them. Best FX units I've ever had. Very Happy

Lexicon MPX1 . Tough to program but reverb is the best.

John,

I used the TC Electronics M-One XL that came with my Stereo Steel, until it failed on me mid-show (catastrophically. Ha!). I have a policy (that isn't necessarily the best; I loved the TC unit, but not when it craps out mid show, and mid solo!), that if something fails for me live, I don't replace it - I move on to something new.

I went with the Lexicon MX200, and I've been happy with it - just delay and reverb, and that's what I currently use on the road with Josh.

Good Luck!

David Spires

So that's how you get that great sound. You're a heck of a player brother
Thanks

Good to hear David Spires chime in here. Had the pleasure of being in the opener for JoDee years ago and great hang time with him.

The Lexi MX200 had a little too much of a processed/studio sound for my live application use. However, either the the M300 or the MX200 are so easy to use. Delay ahead of Reverb all right at your fingertips with easy to store user presets.

Good luck, - DJ -

Just sent mine to Buddy Castleberry so he can download his steel settings onto it... I’d love to play with programing it myself and even “accidentally” got one all the way in but lost it when I tried to store it and then couldn’t figure out how I got there in the first place. 😢... I need a step by step, push this, now push that, now do this, type of layout... definitely not as easy as a Profex ll to program, but WAY Quieter!!!

I like the MPX 1. I have a number of them and have never had a problem with either. I bought a TC Electronics M-One XL and it works fine with the Fender Steel King but don't get it near the Webb. Those two just don't like each other for some reason. MPX1 does great with the Webb though. Programming (MPX1) is a little challenging at first but once you learn it, it's pretty simple.

20 years ago I had a stereo rack. Sounded great to me. One day Joe's brother Jimmy came in, and I got him to play a set so I could schmooze a gal in the club. 12 to 15 feet out, I could no longer hear the stereo. Went back to a Twin.

Had the (what I considered) perfect rack unit. It was built by Roland in Japan so the quality was evident. Forget the model number and unfortunately it is no longer in production, but the unit did delay and reverb only (not a plethora of effects that are only useful to six string players)and did them extremely well. Sold to a Forum member in Texas as I recall when I purchased my Milkman, perhaps he will chime in. In any case, if you can locate one of these units, grab it!..JMHO.

Dan I know there’s a learning curve with anything new that you put into the “Mix”, but it seems to me that some of this stuff could be simpler, for those of us more challenged electronically ... OKAY, just plain challenged!!! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!

For some of the deficiencies of the Profex ll, it is far simpler and more intuitive than the Lexicon MPX1... I like the add/delete feature which to me seems pretty forthright.

I would love for someone, better schooled in this stuff to make a Quik start programing guider or a more in depth tutorial... Some of the manuals put out must be written in China, cause I can’t make much sense of it.

Dale, I use a Peavey Dual DeltaFex and I've probably read the manual(the English Part)....Oh...maybe 6-8 times...the more I read, the behinder I get? I guess there's something in my mind that short circuits or something......keep on reading, keep on reading....etc

I use a Peavey Pro-Fex with my Walker Stereo Steel. The Pro-Fex is easy to program. When I bought the Walker, it came with a Digitech Studio Quad. I was impressed with that. When it died on me, I tried a Quadraverb. The Quadraverb was not true stereo, while the Pro-Fex was.

Tommy,
how are you able to cleanly use the profex with the walker?

I use the Walker Stereo Steel and was using the TC Electronics M One XL that came with it until I ran into the Strymon products. To my ears the Strymon Big Sky Reverb leaves the TC standing by the side of the road. I also bought the Mobius and the Time Line. Top rate products with top rate sound. The other day I took the Strymons out of the loop and put back the TC. I tried 4 or 5 pre-sets and had enough and unplugged it and plugged the Strymons back in. There are just so far above the TC.. I am not all about effects but if I am going to use them even a bit in my sound I want the best sound I can get, Strymon pulls that off in spades. For you this may not be the route you want to take for me it was the only one after hearing the Stymon products.

Tommy, I’m electronically illiterate, but have tried doing what you’re doing... I’ve always plugged my Profex into the the #2 front input of my Session 500 and 400 as well... I’ve tried plugging it into every place there is to plug it into on the back of my 500 but it’s noisier than in every one of those spots.... WHY??? Confused Confused Confused
