Well folks. It's our 20th year and we have a stella line up. We are proud to have Jay Dee Maness as our special guest along with some of Australia's finest steelers. Bruce Green, Bob Alloway, Gary Brown, New Zealand's Paddy Long (Suzanne Prentice), Laurie Minson (lee Kernigan), Milton Quackenbush (Mel Tillis) Ian Kerr and the man himself Australia's grandfather of steel, Mr Kenny Kitching. I'll add more as they confirm. One of the highlights is the Sunday social, a place where we can converse and jamb in a more relaxed setting. It's not too late to book your holiday and enjoy some great Australian hospitality and steel guitar from down under.

Excellent Jeff - I caught up with JD in Dallas and he is very excited about coming down to Brisbane for the Aussie steel show -- really looking forward to sharing the stage with him myself I must say hehe _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9

Thanks Jeff for the info. I have booked a place in Taigum. Which is as close as I can get to the venue I think.
I am driving and picking my brother up in Armidale. He has just got himself a nice Carter D10 from the forum here and although being a very accomplished fiddle player says this guitar is more difficult than he could have imagined. He thinks that the fiddle is perhaps more difficult technique wise but for complexity in different positions for finding notes and chords this thing has a mind of its own. He can't leave the thing alone. Another one obsessed.
Am looking forward to Jay Dee and Always loved Kenny's playing. Kenny helped me out years ago. I got my first steel in 1980 and not really knowing much about them I got a nice blonde Sho Bud in a music shop in Park St Sydney. It only had one lever and I didn't realise it was going to need more later. I think it was Michel who put me in touch with Kenny who added two more for me. He seemed very pleased to be able to assist me. I think he was also playing a Sho Bud at that time. I used to go over to Ingleburn RSL where he played with the Bill Kelly show and sometimes over to Penrith and watch him there. He was always pleased to talk steel and I thought his playing was wonderful. He was an inspiration to any young steel player. |

Yes that suburb is quite close. Look forward to seeing you there. Please introduce yourself to me. I am also MC so you cannot miss my ugly mug!! Kenny is indeed one of the finest. One of the best moments of my 'steel guitar life' was him and I playing some Hawiian tunes together on our steels. He came to me and said "you play Hawaiian, come on let's play then" WOW! Honoured!!
Safe travels Chris

It is with disappointment, but understanding, that I have to announce the withdrawal of Ivan Poser (New Zealand) to our festival. Ivan is a longtime supporter of our festival and he will be sadly missed. Maybe next year!! |
