Guys, maybe I just have caveman legs, but the half-stop of one of my
knee levers feels very soft and I often go past the stop point.
Is there a way to adjust the feel to be more positive?
I play a LeGrande II.

Can you put the lower note rod in a crank hole farther away from the cross shaft (to reduce mechanical advantage)? _________________ Those that say don't know; those that know don't say.--Buddy Emmons |

John, you probably have 2 half stop adjustments. The screws at the back of the changer and a half stop tuner on the 2nd string rod. It's easy to get a good feel by using the changer screws. First, tune both 2 and 9 open. then adjust the lower on 9 to go a little lower than what you need. Make sure the screw is backed out on 9 before you tune the lower. Now tune the 9 lower up using the changer screw. Go to the 2nd string, tune the full tone lower using the nylon tuning nut. Check the half tone lower, then go to the nylon tuning nut on 9 and adjust until you get the correct half tone lower on 2. That should do it. But you could go to the tuner on the 2nd string rod and make some adjustments, but you probably don't need to do that. If you notice that the changer screw won't make contact with the finger as you adjust, it might be that you need a little more travel on the lever. I have a Derby that has both methods and it works well but the Rittenberry with just the screws, does also. |

I like to adjust the timing of the 9 th string lower as suggested. You can also adjust the spring tension in the half tone adjustment rod. Adjust the drop return spring on the 2nd string as light as possible and increase this tension on the 9th string. |

In addition to the good advice already provided, I’ve found that using the horizontal “flag†extension on the knee lever helps me to better feel when I’ve reached the halfway stopping point, since the pressure is more spread out along my thigh instead of being at just one narrow contact point.

I re-positioned the 2nd string drop to my RKL. I have a better feel for the 1/2 position when I move my leg in rather than out. |
