But you rock the other way when you use B+C anyway, Chris. I don't see what difference it makes. You have to make both movements, and actually you have to rock your ankle in both directions when just playing the A+B pedals. If you favor one movement over the other, your just limiting your musical options. |
Bingo! As long as the guitar has the E knee levers on the left knee, I can sit in on an Emmons setup guitar. Takes about 15 minutes, and I'm good to go. Of course, really hard stuff is a train wreck. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, NV400, NV112 . Playing for 54 years and still counting. |

Jimmy Day or Buddy Emmons: What's that?
Buddy Emmons or Jimmy Day: It's a pedal.
JD/BE: I know, but what's the other one?
BE/JD: It's a pedal too.
JE/BD: What did you call the first one?
B/J: A pedal.
"What do you call the second one?"
"I guess it'd be a pedal too."
"What's the first one do?"
"It's makes an A."
"So it's A pedal..."
"Yes, it's a pedal."
"What's the second one do?"
"It makes the rest of the A, like one pedal used to do."
"And this is A pedal two?"
"Yeah, pedal two."
"What's that?
And there you have it. _________________ Those that say don't know; those that know don't say.--Buddy Emmons |

To get back on track with Charlie's OP from years ago - no-one knows for sure, but presumably it was the idea of separating the changes that mattered at the time, not which way round they went.
Nowadays something like a quarter of players use the Day setup. I won't launch a poll, but I quite often see posts from guys who say they're happy to play the other way round given a bit of time to adjust, and I don't think I've seen any that say "no way". So it's down to personal comfort - you need to be happy in the position where you spend the bulk of your time.
Having said all that, if you play a U12 with the type of pedal layout that mimics the D10, there's some mileage in having the A pedal next to the B6 ones. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!
