Linda at her best, IMO.
Dan, along with Andrew Gold on lead, Kenny Edwards on bass, Waddy Wachtel on acoustic.
Can't see who's on drums or keys. |

Thanks, guys - what a wonderful forum this is! I thought he looked a bit young to be SPK at that time, and he is playing in a much more straightforward style. The reason for my interest is that in a few months time I have to back a lady singer who does Ronstadt/Carly Simon/Carole King stuff, which in theory I'm old enough to remember but in practice I need to study. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Great for you, Ian. I have fond memories of listening to the records, with the sidemen Skip mentioned, Karla Bonoff and Wendy Waldman come to my mind also. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

The studio version of Willin' is one of my favorite songs ever. It has a wonderful "Live" feel to it, plus you have Sneaky Pete on steel. The real star, to me, is Bob Warfords' amazing B-Bender Tele solo.
Lowell George claims writing this song got him fired from the band he was in. The band? The Mothers of Invention. Frank didn't like songs 'bout drugs… Other sources say there was no place in the Mothers' set list for that song, and Lowell decided it was time to move on. |

Hey Bill, I agree with you 100% about the studio version. I have that LP and Bob's bender solo makes the whole thing for me.....JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

Linda was college dorm room wall poster adornment in my day. And she sang good too... _________________ Lawyers are done: Emmons SD-10, 3 Dekleys including a D10, NV400, and lots of effects units to cover my clams... |

Bill, I presume this is the version you mean. I'm not a B-Bender fan as a rule, but I have to admit it works here

Ian - That's the one! She does it in E, Lowell did it in an open G. |

When I first started playing back then, I thought the first part of the solo was another steeler or Sneaky playing some off the wall style! When I finally figured out what was going on I kept working on copping that little piece/feel on steel (more than a little ironic eh?)and then playing both parts anytime I'd get the chance to play that song. I still get chicken skin every time I hear that solo. |
