Amber Digby's style is very near Tanya Tucker's style.
Who plays pedal steel with her?
...really decent work. |

The great Dicky Overbey, Amber's Step-Dad, played steel with her for years. Sadly he passed away last Fall. I'm not sure who her steel player is now... |

She is better than Tanya. At times she can sound like Tammy, Loretta and Dolly. Very talented. |

Thanks, Brett...Nathan has got himself a great gig. For anyone that doesn't have Amber's CD's, you can get them through Heart of Texas Records http://www.hillbillyhits.com/hotrecords/amberdigby.html
You can learn lots of great honky tonk pedal steel intros, fills, endings, and breaks by listening to Dicky Overbey's playing on these. (also Jim Loessberg, Lloyd Green, and Rick Price play on some tunes) |

Yes, I'm already convinced, Amber is the "real deal".
Is she a Texas girl?
Has she ever performed on Austin City Limits? |

I'm a big fan. Own all her CDs. Love Randy's and Dicky's playing. One other thing, Amber just gets better and more beautiful the older she gets. _________________ To write with a broken pencil is pointless. |

Nathan Fleming does indeed play steel for Amber now, and what a player he is. My wife and I try to go to Austin as much as we can and Nathan has become my favorite in a town full of monster steel players. Dickie Overby's shoes or should I say socks are mighty hard to fill but Nathan does a great job. Dave Bieler is playing lead guitar now so it is just a great band to back Ambers great voice. We saw this band at a festival in Bristol Va/Tn and I can't wait to get to Texas to hopefully hear a whole show with this band. If you have a chance to see them do whatever it takes to go!!!! Thanks Nathan and Amber for real Country Music for adults!!! |

Death of the Ball Turret Gunner by Randall Jarrell:
"From my mother's sleep I fell into the State,
And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze.
Six miles from earth, loosed from the dream of life,
I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters.
When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose."
Sometimes being economical of word makes the point more than does the number of words used. Ernest Hemingway also wrote in a similar fashion,

FYI - The ball turret on a B-17 is on the belly of the aircraft, behind the bomb bays. it was so cramped that only short men got the duty. It was the main turret attacked by enemy fighters because it was so effective at destroying them. Accordingly, it was considered a death trap by aircrews. In "The World According to Garp", Technical Sergeant Garp was TS's father, a ball turret gunner who had his frontal lobes destroyed by shrapnel. _________________ Jack Aldrich

With all due respect to Rick Collins, when listening to Amber sing, I have never thought of Tanya Tucker. Maybe there's something there I haven't picked up on.
I think Amber is one of the great country singers working today! Her band is full of "A-Team" pickers. They play the Grand Ole Opry next Saturday night, July 18, 2015, I think.

When you listen to her sing you are hearing some true country music - superbly performed I might add. I wish we could get back to more of this. |

She is 1/3 of my favorite trio...Amber, Dawn Sears, & Miss Leslie Sloan. Have a couple of Leslie's CDs & she is the REAL DEAL! And some of the best steel playing you've ever heard by the fabulous Ricky Davis. _________________ A couple D-10s,some vintage guitars & amps, & lotsa junk in the gig bag. |
