I would like to record my steel.I want to record say four measures at a time then sync with rhythm track. I have a digital recorder, but would like to use software to sync everything up. Any suggestions on the best recording software ? I was looking at PRO TOOLS EXPRESS.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "syncing up" your steel guitar track with your rhythm tracks.
My advice would be to record your rhythm tracks first, then lay down your steel guitar track.

If you lay down your steel guitar track first, there's no gauranty that the steel will be in tune with the other tracks...at least that's been my experience in the past.

Which recording software is the "best" will depend on who you ask.
There are many that are very good.

Look to see which companies offer a demo/trial version of their software.
Try them out to see which one you like the best.

Protools is a good software, Studio One , Sonar, Samplitude, Cubase, Reaper.
These are a few that are all great for editing as well as recording audio.

I would recommend trying out the demos to see which one you like the best.
Some folks use Audacity which is free.

I've never used it, but people who have seem to really like it.

If you don't mind using a Mac it comes with Garageband, which works really good for editing and recording. You can pick up used iMacs for the same price as PT Express
