I'll have a free night in Conroe, Texas Friday, the 21st. Anything going on? Also, and maybe more important, where's the best BBQ?

Peter, I have a cousin that lives in Lake Conroe...says Vernon's Kuntry Bbq is the place to go for authentic Texas bbq. https://plus.google.com/108285702265063766661/about?gl=us&hl=en

There's a restaurant/club in Conroe called "Dosey Doe" that has excellent food and live Texas music all week. I occasionally play there with Gary P. Nunn. On the 21st, an artist named Bonnie Bishop is headlining, though I'm unfamiliar with her work or style.

Down the road from DD's is another venue of theirs called "The Big Barn," and that night blues legend John Hammond will be playing. THAT's a show I'd like to see!

What're you doing in Conroe, anyway? Wink

Herb, Sat. night I'm subbing on bass for a lady named Jpni Morris from Stockton who's doing a tribute to "Legendary Ladies of Country Music". I've subbed on this and a Patsy Cline tribute for her at the Morongo casino near L.A. before. Money means nothing to me. I'm only in it for the BBQ. Bill, thanks for the tip!

Just ate at Vernon's BBQ. Mission accomplished. Tomorrow, the Waffle House!

Sadly no Whataburger (I used to play on their jingles) and no Waffle House, either. I can only consume so many calories in a limited time. I'll hit the Awful House when we're in Phoenix in January. And all the clubs seemed to be blues, or DJ's (a $4 cover charge for a DJ!?!?). The BBQ wasn't bad but they're hoping for a Kansas City booking (last time I was there Arthur Bryant's had a power outage and they sent us to Gates).

peter....
man that was a classic line, "I'm only in it for the Bar-B-Q"....
so many times, musicians and bands blow up over the dollar. yours will be an interesting book when it is written.
ask the young lady to book something in Mississippi.
that show would really work here, and, we could meet you with some Bar-B-Q and Tamales
