Guys,
I've had this problem before on an Emmons and I can't remember what I did to fix it.
Trying to tune my C pedal (Emmons setup) to raise my E to an F#
But as I am turning the nylon changer tuners it is raising the pitch of my E string
My E string knee levers are working fine
What am I missing here?
Thanks _________________ Jb in Ohio

Called 'overtuning'...loosen both tuning nuts all the way to slack, retune your opens strings and then retune the raises. |

No, loosen the tuning hex nuts at the endplate for both c pedal raises until the pedal doesn't engage.
Also check to make sure all other levers and pedals operating string 4 and 5 have slack before retuning open strings and retuning c pedal raises. |

If that doesn't work, you may need more travel on the C pedal. |

It turned out to be a little of each
A couple more tweaks and she'll be ok.
Thanks guys _________________ Jb in Ohio

Must have changed string gauges recently. Otherwise, its very rare to need to adjust your travel to eliminate the possibility of overtuning. |

I dunno, the guitar just showed up today. Bought it from another forumite and overall its a very nice guitar.
Every used guitar has its quirks to iron out. She'll be fine.
The bulk of the problem was that both E levers were really cranked - no slack
Whenever turning the nylons changes your tuning somethings overtightened.
She's still just shy of that C pedal being perfect on the 4th string and I adjusted the stop way out.
Just need to drink more coffee and look at it I guess _________________ Jb in Ohio

Cool...what kind did you get...?
I'm not sure this actually happens...but, just look underneath at the changer finger scissor when you push the pedal all the way and make sure that the lower scissor is all the way back against the stop, and that it stays in place when you raise the string. You don't want it to drag along because it counteracts the raise.
If the lower and raise part of the scissor move together, you may have to adjust the lowering finger spring tension.
This is more normally a problem when you are lowering a string, and the raise follows the lowering scissor so you can't finish the lower. |

I'll check that.
It's a Sierra Crown S-12 - originally a Uni but dropped back to 3 & 5 Emmons setup.
I am adding a Franklin pedal shortly, got the parts, just need some courage. _________________ Jb in Ohio

John, I had the same problem with my Emmons awhile back. I moved my rod to the highest hole in the bell crank, and the string tuned to pitch perfectly. |

John,do you still have the Emmons? That guitar was buttery smooth, even if the levers were backwards ! Lol ( I lower mine on RKL) _________________ D.S. Rigsby |

Nah, sold that a while back.
The Legrands were great guitars.
That one was built by Ron SR back in 1990
I shoulda kept it _________________ Jb in Ohio

Did you get your Sierra Crown C-Pedal issue fixed?
Did you adjust the Delrin Cam to allow more travel?
Don't overtighten those as sometimes they will crack. |
